the forum description gave me the idea for this post...

so what streets are on the american monopoly or better still, what city? Or do you have more than one version like over here? (Obviously the original London one is the most popular still here) Monopoly drives me nuts, I always seem to lose!

I love monopoly, but mostly when I play it with someone on the computer. Too hard to keep track of all those pieces and paper money!

I've seen city versions of the game, and even a ret*d "Dogopoly" which is the same game, only with stupid dog types and terms as properties, cards, in the manual, etc. I love dogs, myself, but this variation was dumb. You bought dogs instead of property. How would you get a monopoly on dogs??? Geez.

For the US version, here are some of the streets I can remember:
Mediterranean Ave.
Baltic Ave.
Vermont Ave.
New York Ave.
Marvin Gardens
Boardwalk
Park Place

I think it's all from Atlantic City.

The London version isn't the original. Parker Bros. released the atlantic city version in 1935 and Waddington games released their version a year later (parker bros licensed them to). The London one is the most popular in britain and other places, however.

Excellent article on the history:

EDIT:

I've edited the forum description to be Commonwealth friendly. :D

Monopoly is a great game . . . it really tests your foresight. The only problem is that no one ever wants to play it with me, and when you play online the people you are playing sometimes tend to leave their computers for long periods of time without notifying you or leaving the game so that the rest of the people can play.

I play Monopoly from time to time, but the game takes a lot of time so it is rare that people want to play. I use the Paris edition (Rue de la Paix, Avenue des Champs-Elysées, Rue de Courcelle, Gare de Lyon, etc). There is a video game version for computers. Do any of you have it ?

I heard that there are, if I'm correct, 5 versions of Monopoly here in the US.

Original Monopoly
Monopoly Junior
Star Wars Episode I Monopoly
Pokemon Monopoly
and one more that I can't figure out the name

American Monopoly uses streets in Atlantic City, NJ...a gambling town on the Jersey Shore about two hours south of where I live.

There are other versions too...like SpongeBob and The Simpsons, or NFl and the Yankees...but of course the original's the best.

I once saw a Philly Monopoly, though.

P. S. I wonder what a Fair Lawn Monopoly would be like!

If you care, Monopoly in Israel uses streets in Tel Aviv. 8)

Are you kidding? Computer monopoly can't beat the real thing! Part of the game is being able to cheat intelligently and without being caught. A quick pass of an opponents money to snare a 500. Or an extra 100 from the bank when you pass go.
We have a original Star Wars trilogy Monopoly set, an australian Monopoly set, a new classic England Monopoly set and an old set from about 1970's.

I have had the black and white ©93' computer
Monopoly, Later the color ©94' version, and did
try the ©96' one and found that it required a internet
install. My all time favorite computer monopoly
is the color ©94' by MacSoft that ran on a Powerbook.

I love monopoly, and computers cheat on it, but that
is why you have rule setting options. So take that
Mr.Cheating Computer, and thanks for letting me win
sometimes(refered to mr.CheatingComputer).

The board game is the BEST, especially on a rainy
day, or breaking the ice tactic with total strangers.
It reveals their true nature because we a people
are greedy or not.

So enjoy, and $2000 rent because you hit my hotel
on Boardwalk, Ohhhhhh! your bankrupt, Sniff, Sniff

Yours Truly,
Ghosthunter

Does it come with a set of little stickers so you can overwrite the street names that get destroyed by Palestinian suicide bombers?
