Kingdom Hearts 3D - Hit or Miss?

The series has had the best titles and the cash-ins as while the Playstation has had the better game review scores than Nintendo, the next one in the series is looking impressive on the 3DS.
Only a few worlds this time, though you play as Sora and Riku. They are put through the Mark of Mastery test (like Terra and Aqua were in BBS) to prepare possibly for the Keyblade Showdown in the possible conclusion of KH3 with Sora's story.

I've actually never played a KH game before. Is 3D an improved re-lease of the original?

Nah it's another sequel, the full title is Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance (3D's, a play on the 3DS system name lol) . It really doesn't matter which one is the first game you play though as the plot is incomprehensible and ret*d, they are really damn fun games.

I'm looking forward to KH3D mainly because I'm a huge fan of one of Square Enix's other games, namely The World Ends with You. Apparently the Shibuya Underground is a playable world in the game, and the screens I've seen from Game Informer confirm appearances by both Neku and Joshua (Neku appears with Sora but Joshua appears with Riku, perhaps Riku's experience in the dream worlds are different than Sora's?), with Neku appearing to be a combat-capable NPC. In addition, three of the tracks for KH3D are remixes of tracks on the TWEWY soundtrack, namely Twister, Calling, and Someday. The KH versions are called "Kingdom Remix" or similar.

^ That and it makes sense you would as Roxas_XIII is your username so it's kind of hard to think of anything with that name without refering to KH

It's not a 3D release of the original as Xenu has already confirmed.
To be fair though you may have to either play the PS2 ones and the PSP version to get the idea of the story.
That or you can read up about it as plenty of sites about KH cover all of the games stories. (I do this to avoid playing the cash-in games as it will seem a little confusing in the story as to what happened before this.)

I'll play it if only because there are few 3DS games I am interested in and because TWEWY characters are in this but frankly, I lost interested in the overall plot somewhere between KH1 and KH2.

I found so-called twists neither surprising or "felt with" the characters affected by all the betrayal and stuff, thinking they're not multidimensional enough to keep me engaged and I found the complicated constructive details to be boring, having gotten the impression that the games progressively catered to a more action-orientated (less rp-orientated) and far younger audience. Nevertheless, it does make for a easy-going semi-action game so it's still very much worth playing in my opinion

Besides: Dream Eater Wonder Nyah plushie. It's so cute.

I also very much look forward to the input those having worked on KH titles before will be able to contribute to FFversusXIII, there's nothing wrong at all with the original mechanics and basic influences.

It's too bad I seem to miss out on the preorder bonus coming with the game, seeing how I'll have to import the US version.
