The Tales of series is really good. It also is notable for not using a turn based battle system but a real time battle system that plays kind of like Smash Bros.

But here of some videos from some of the games

My personal favorite is Tales of Symphonia but it might just be because of nostalgia (for Gamecube)

I don't think anybody has mentioned it yet, but the Deus Ex series may count... but barely. It's either a hybrid or an FPS with RPG elements, depending on how you'd want to classify it.

Well the reason nobody mentioned it is because by reading his OP you can tell he is obviously more interested in good JRPGS, not shitty WRPGS.

I've played Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. (Arc The Lad 4)Almost beat it. FFTA, Golden Sun, Dark Cloud 2, Rogue Galaxy, The World Ends With You, Kindgom heats 1, 2, and then a little bit of chain of memories and 358/2 days. Never bought Birth By Sleep. There are many others...Chrono Chross, FF7, etc. Although I have not played Shadow Hearts. Shadow Hearts1 and 2 are supposed to have great gameplay and a compelling, dark and interesting storyline that draws on older history. From The New World though, is just bizarre. There's a character who's like some sort of Latino Ninja who learned his art in the Amazon....IDK about that.

Out of all of these games, I really liked KH1, Arc The Lad 4, Chrono Cross, (don't forget Chrono Trigger as well) and also The World Ends With You. Arc The Lad 4 had moderate level gameplay but the story was AMAZING. It really deserved to be a novel. Chrono Cross had a lot of intriguing concepts to it, in both gameplay and story, as it revolved around a regular dimension and another alternate dimension called Other World. It's the same world but things are different in both, which means that you sometimes have to go to one or the other to get things accomplished. There was also a large cast of recruitable characters. KH! was also amazing for it's storyline. The World Ends With You was great because it had a lot of unique concepts and an interesting style. Also it was fast paced, and the whole concept was pretty cool.

Never played Birth By Sleep, because I was sick and tired of the monotonous, rambling side stories and back stories that I didn't care about coupled with repetitious gameplay.

FF4 DS ------> FF3 DS
Nothing personal, just stating my opinion between the FF DS Main Series remakes...

The best of all the final fantasy games... Final Fantasy 7! Such a great story line. I get sucked into the game and fall in love with the characters!

Final Fantasy VII has everything going fit it as far as I'm concerned. Great thirty two bit graphics, great play, great characters, and great story (one of the best). Now that I think of it, I'm going to play it as soon as I'm done here.

Keep going with Kingdom Hearts! Each new game in the series blows me away!
Baldur's Gate is a definite, and it's having a HD remake later this year!
Icewind Dale is from the same makers and is SUPER nice!
Trinity Universe is a really fun anime-style RPG, rather like your run-of-the-mill stuff or other JRPGs - catchy music, too!
Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim - I've spent well over a hundred hours playing this game, and I've only JUST completed the main quest. There's so many sidequests, so many places to explore... I've heard people having logged over five hundred hours on it and not even having finished the main quest (which, once you do... doesn't end the game!)

Which Fallout do you have? Fallout 3 AND New Vegas are definitely worth getting; very time absorbing!

I hope this helps!

If you have a DS, you owe it to yourself to check out The World Ends With You. I could go on for hours about how amazing this game is. The storyline is fascinating, the characters are well-developed and impossible not to grow attached to, its twist on an equipment system (fashion trends) is deep, customizable and addictive, and it's got one of the most fun battle systems of any RPG I've ever played. I found the battle system to be so multilayered and engaging that I would always clear every area of as many random battles as possible before continuing with the story.

The game is nearly impossible to find these days (only 3 Gamestops in California have a copy O.o ), but once you find this game, you'll have a new obsession for the next few months.

As for Pokemon 5th Gen, I don't get why it's so trendy to hate on Black and White. It's superior to Diamond, Pearl and Platinum in a number of ways. And while some Pokemon do look a bit goofy and uninspired, there's quite a few really useful ones to train and raise. Don't let the mediocre starters fool you, the Pokemon series is still as addictive as ever. So I say you definitely should get around to playing Black or White!

I recommend ES: II Daggerfall, Fallout 1 and 2 and KOTOR. I also recommend kotor 2, its a highly underrated game, and I personally think it has better dialouge than the first one.

My very favorite RPG ever would be Morrowind, especially with the overhaul mod and TR maps.

However, you can take my recommendations with a grain of salt, as I tend to put story, characters and dialouge before gameplay or graphics. That is why I would NEVER recommend Oblivion. Good graphics, but bland story. That and they butchered the lore.

YOU MUST PLAY EARTHBOUND. ALL 3 GAMES.
MOTHER [Unofficially named EarthBound Zero] [Released for Famicom, Cancelled english ROM released though]
MOTHER 2 [Officially named EarthBound in the US and elsewhere] [Released for Super Famicom and SNES [In US only]]
MOTHER 3 [Sometimes unofficially named EarthBound 2] [Released for GBA, Fan Translation Patch made for ROM]
The MOTHER games shall live on!
Even my icon is meant to be me drawn in the EarthBound sprite style XD
And in all three games you can name the main characters.
There is also a game called MOTHER 1+2 for the GBA, there is a fan translation patch to it although only MOTHER is translated. MOTHER 2 is playable but with not much text translation.
So that is the way i will kickstart your soon-to-be-found love for EarthBound!

I'd recommend Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Geneforge, Avernum, Avadon: The Black Fortress, The Elder Scrolls, especially Daggerfall, Morrowind and Skyrim. Daggerfall is free on Bethesda's website but all those other games you need to pay for.
