How do the fine folks on here feel open open world gaming? I usually find all the choice paralyzing and have a hard time navigating. As such, I tend to prefer linear games or games separated by mission with secndary objectives as well.

It took me 3 months to beat the First Assassin's Creed if that gives you an diea how rough it is for me.

I still have Infamous 1 and 2 that I got for free too...I want to play through them but don't want to have the same issues.

I can understand, for games like Morrowind, etc.

I don't see Assassin's Creed or other sandbox games that way, though. I always have the goal of getting 'x' done, like side-quests, challenges and collectables. Then I catch up on story missions until there's more side missions to do, etc. That's generally how I get through those games. Assassin's Creed games take me a bit over a week or two to 100% complete. GTA IV on the other hand... Well, I'm sick of searching for damn pigeons!

Interesting. I find open world RPGs easier than Assassin's Creed since I can use quests to keep things busy.

I have a second questyion for this thread...how do you do against AI? I suck agaisnt fighting game AI but tend to do far better against people.

why do you bother to get 100% in any game? anyway, I love open world games! I like to run around, drive like mad, crash cars, and steal military hardware! my fave open world games, are, GTA SA, Just Cuase2, and SaintsRow2+3. Open world gameing for the win!

I generally get 100% because it's a goal and I'm a perfectionist. Also, I generally find running people over and going crazy is only fun for awhile. And it's certainly not as fun in the latest GTA's. However, it's much more fun in Prototype and Just Cause 2 and other silly games like that to just go crazy.

And I'm generally good at any part of the game, but yeah, I don't get AI either. So I can beat something, even doing it a stupid hard way, before I look up that there was an easier way, or "this" or "that" is how the AI would behave or have a pattern.

I don't have much experience on facing humans, since I never really had gamer friends or online games, but I'm getting used to it, slowly, as I play some here and there. The main problem is I generally over-think things, and am always trying to use strategy to outsmart them, when they're just doing whatever comes to mind and not thinking ahead themselves! >.<

Strategy usuallworks wl for me in those situations, as do my skills. In fighting games though the AI is just crazy good at evades/blocking/combos, where I am more instinctive and adaptive in fighting style.

And Just Cause 2 is fun, but I often find myself running out of ammo. Might be my inexperience with shooters though.

I wish I had a lot of spare time to actually fully enjoy an open world game like morrowind.

Coming from a PNP background having the freedom to build my own identity within a game is very important. Generally I don't tend to focus on finishing the game as much as I tend to focus on developing a character I like in the game. This tends to push me towards games with open worlds and player defined characters.

I also tend to be a little bit adverse to following linear story lines. So I tend to gravitate towards games that allow the player to shape the story or, have little scripted story at all beyond a general framework.

I generally role-play in open-world games like Morrowind, but I have no problem playing linear stories.
Then again, it's good for me to play linear stories, because without some sort of push, I generally never finish games like Morrowind.

Also, since I don't know how to multi-quote:
For Just Cause 2, you should be fine if you just make sure to pick up the ammo left behind by enemies, as well as any money laying around to buy extra.

What is PNP an acronym for?
I always pick up ammo and money, yet I always run out of ammo...does that just mean I have terrible aim?

Shocked that more people aren't having issues with open world games, soemtimes I feel like an outcast even here!

Not sure what PNP means, myself.

I think if you're spending more than 5 bullets on an enemy on average, you may be wasting bullets. Try for headshots and legshots to make it easier. Then again, it's been forever since I played. Make good use of the environment and explosives, and don't forget you always have your trusty grappling hook!

And I don't think you're completely alone. I'm struggling to finish GTA4. But that's mainly because I find all the side quests and anything more tedious than fun, and the story isn't great.
My advice? Just stick to the main story, doing side missions if you feel like them. In a game like Assassin's Creed, it doesn't really benefit you too much, to be honest. Just some more money, which by the end of the game you'll have more than you'll know what to do with, anyways!
Unless you mean just the first game (Or one of the handheld ones I haven't gotten to play yet.)? You only need to do 3 out of the missions to get to the assassination mission, if I remember right, so just do the easy ones. =P

Usually takes me 10-15 because I can't seem to aim the damn guns for the heads/legs no matter how hard I try. I was never any good at shooters though.

I think part of it is I just prefer to have a sense of direction with my gameplay. Side quests I often feel no need to do.

My bad, I'm usually better at defining my Acronyms. I alway hate it when people throw Acronyms and Tag words around without explaining it. PNP or PnP or P&P = Pen and Paper. I guess Table Top would be another way to say it.

I grew up with Dungeons & Dragons and other games. Me and my friends never really saw the gamemaster as some kind of dictator who controlled the story. It was more of a Co-Op effort between all the parties involved in the game. It was not uncommon for a GM in our group to also run a Player Character along side the group or, for someone to pick up Game Mastering someone elses story. We were able to create pretty long running naratives that often could trancend a single champaign.

I wish pen and paper gaming existed to any degree whatsoever where I come from. Seems like a great exercise of creativity.

They're great. Being able to get lost in a good way always appealed to me. Take to the highway, shoot thugs, loot their items, explore places, find secrets, find entertaining side quests - those things appeal to me. They're the endless sequence of small discoveries that give me a sense of pride, and they make playing those games much more fun.

I like the idea of open world games, but the choices and options tend to overwhelm me and lead to indecision.
