Samus.

I remember playing through Metroid when I was a kid, only to have that reverse Crying Game moment at the end of the game.

Heh.

My favorite would be Zelda, since the Legend of Zelda is my favorite video game series of all time. I also like;

Peach
Samus
Female Commander Shepard
Liara
Tali
Midna
Yuna
Lightning
Kairi
Xeon
Catwoman
Harley Quinn

There are probably a few more I'm forgetting as well.

Jodie from Beyond two Souls, if you haven't played it, play it.

Jodie beats all of these girls in this post. Every single one. All for one thing, she is a well developed character. This is how you do female characters in video games. Jodie. Look at Jodie.

She wasn't every sexualized in the game. She was normal looking. She was hardened, but vulnerable.

For example:

-There is a level with where she goes in basically as an assassin, some s**t happens. You feel like a bad ass playing the level, but they bring it to real human levels of reality when realizations are made. Jodie just isn't the hard bad ass, she has emotions, feelings, she feels vulnerable in certain situations.

Jodie is a fully develop character. A character in 3D. And I expect Jodie to be the example people use for female characters from now. All the rest on this list can get thrown in a pit.

Lt. Keira Stokes from FEAR 2 does it for me!

Unlike some of the unrealistic females listed normally, she is more like a real woman! yay!

She is a real kick-ass chick! In the game she really cooperates and sometimes leads the player character. It's not only about the looks, although I think she is really pretty... ;)

Maybe I guess I am a little biased because I love the game so much! ;)

It may well be a cliché, but it's Chun Li for me:

I could always easily get into her fighting style, whether it was in the 2D Street Fighter games, the 3D games, or in Capcom vs SNK. Especially in the latter, her super combos are devastating. I remember at times being stumped on how to defeat a boss or a mid-boss, and just switching to Chun Li and have her wall jump give me the edge. That's how I first defeated Vega (Spanish), at least. Beating him at his own game.

I also like her back story, how she seeks justice for the death of her father, how she ends up training a bunch of kids in the martial arts, and how -at least in the games- she doesn't seem to be romantically linked to anyone (besides MAYBE Nash), even if other media try to pair her up with Ryu or Guile. She always came across as a highly independent character with the greatest sense of justice among all of the Street Fighter participants, a neat look with the yellow pattern on the sky blue China-dress, and her hair with the half bangs and the double buns.

Maybe it's because I've played both games fairly recently they stick in my head the most, but I'd have to give the nod to Lara Croft from the new Tomb Raider or Ellie from The Last of Us.

My favorite female video-game character would have to be Claire Redfield from the Resident Evil series. She is a playable character in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Code Veronica X.

Ellie from the Last of Us. she's only fourteen and she's still on the level of Lara Croft or Jill Valentine.

I'd go with Sarah Kerrigan.
