My PS4 package is confirmed but im paying £50 more than i planned, console with one controller and a copy of watchdogs- £400

Apparently the games of this gen will be £50- £55 per title rather than the traditional £40. Thats before the mandatory PSN+ fees.

I'm starting to dislike this gen already and it hasn't even started yet. At least I can't get screwed by Microshaft's DRM protection so second hand games are still an option.

(le shrug) I shall be waiting until the first wave (or few waves) of consumers have helpfully enabled the console to come down in price through demand, before I get one.
By then, there ought to be a good selection of games available second-hand (hopefully for reasonable prices) as well.

I'm not familiar with the prices of games in the UK, but it sounds like things are going to be even more overpriced for you. In NA, I don't think the prices of games are going to be much different, if any. PS+ is only mandatory if you want to play online multiplayer, and not all titles will require it. All other features will be free, or only behind one paywall, just like before. My understanding is the reason Sony wants to make Plus mandatory for multiplayer is so that they can provide better servers. The upside is that you will get all the benefits of being a PS+ member. I don't play multiplayer very often though, so I don't share the same mindset. If I ever get caught up in Game Nights on one of the forums I frequent, I'll just purchase three months of Plus.

I looked at it here in Canada and the games will be the exact same price ($60+tax) as before and the console itself will be much cheaper ($400+tax) than the PS3 (60GB) was at launch ($660+tax). Even the controllers and other accessories are the same price as before and that's not even factoring in inflation.

Still have no plans on getting one for at least a year but that had quite interesting to say the least.

Another thing that annoys me is that my PSN account(s) won't be interchangable between my PS4 and PS3. So any currency I have on my existing PS3 PSN account I can't spend on my PS4.

You should get a refund and build a PC, there's no going back to consoles once you game on a PC.

i went from consoles to PC and back to consoles again.

The thing i hate about PC gaming is that you can spend £400 or £500 on a state of the art PC and 2 years later you can't be sure if new releases will still work cause the technology evolves that damn fast and you end up having to spend £100 every year on upgrades just to bring it up to speed. I'm lazy in that i don't have the functioning to learn computer maintenance and I can't cope with bringing my PC to leave it at the shop for days on end. At least with consoles you know you have a 10 year period where all games you buy are guaranteed to actually work at the intended specs. With the exception of a few titles that i revisit now and again, I use my PC's for other reasons other than my personal gaming.

I like consoles because it is a simple matter of taking the unit straight out of the box, plugging it into the TV and bang, you have a platform that you can leave for years on end without periodic maintenance or upgrades.

Anyway there are PS4 exclusives i want that definitely won't get PC releases.
