Pokken is releasing this Friday worldwide.
First prints have the Shadow Mewtwo Amiibo card to unlock him from the start (you can unlock him through normal play too).

You also level up each playable Pokemon to boost stats and stuff.

Reviews are extremely polarized on this game from great to lackluster.

Why PETA?

It's a joke because PETA thinks Pokemon is a form of animal abuse.

Ugh, that. I've never entirely understood that. It's not exactly realistic, after all... I dunno, could be that I'm missing some of the reasoning here, but it always seemed silly to me.

Well if you think about it, Pokemon is glorified dog fighting, so it kind of makes sense...

These kids start out with Pikachu, and grow up to be Michael Vick.

PETA is an animal WRONGS organization. They are a bunch hypocrites who would gladly kill innocent humans, endangered trees and plants, and even other animals to stop a cow from being eaten. Or even milked.

They made this super gory "parody" of Super Mario 3 where a bloody and naked tanooki is the protagonist trying to get his fur back from the cruel and evil Mario because people IRL kill and skin raccoon dogs. But the Tanooki suit in SM3 comes from a leaf, it's nothing more than a power-up item, and no tanookis were harmed to get it.

You can also get the leaf from stopping on goombas that have the tanooki tails.

There's supposed to be a demo coming, I'll have to try it.

Probably won't be interested in buying it, though. Not huge into Pokemon, not huge into versus fighters.

Looks interesting, though I'm not very good at fighting games even though I like them. Too much dexterity involved. I'd probably never play online. But yeah, I'd probably add it to the list of Wii U games I want to play but can't because $60 for a game is too much for someone poor like me.

To be fair though, the Goombas (well, the ones you fight anyway) *are* just another of Bowser's soldiers. They're not exactly innocent animals. Dumber than a sack of hammers, yes, but still.

This stuff with PETA seems to go more than a bit far. I mean, it's freaking MARIO this time. Everything he does really does come from powerups, and even if he does something like knock the wings off of a Paragoomba, they never seem particularly bothered by it (hell, I'm not sure they NOTICE). But yeah, Mario games... they're really about as innocent as you can get. Even Bowser getting reduced to "Dry Bowser" doesnt seem to slow him down in the slightest. Nobody really gets hurt in a Mario game as a rule, not that I can think of anyway. Usually.

Bloody strange.

As for Pokken, I'm not too sure. On one hand, yes, I like fighting games. And yes, I like Pokemon. But on the other hand... it's going with the Tekken formula, of all things. Tekken... is slow. Slow to me, anyway. And tends to use canned combos (which I dont like). But... yeah, I really dont know. I might, I might not, I'm kinda torn on it.

If I do make the purchase, it'll be a little later on. Right now as the Wii U goes I'm too much into Mario Maker, and I acquired WAY too many new games on Steam recently... I should get to some of those before buying anything else.

I think I'll spend some time having a look at this game in videos though, see it for myself.

The downloadable demo is only available outside of NA at the moment.
In NA you have to a retailer that has a Wii U kiosk to try it.

I bought the game today at Meijer's thanks to mPerks and the 10% of on merchandise coupon.

So I only paid $22.93 for this game.

The game is really fun and fluid.

The fighting mechanics are deep and fluid.
If you have played a previous fighting game, you should easily pick up the gameplay.

Though the Shifting phases/camera view can be annoying/confusing during fast pace battles.

Each Pokemon has it's own moveset.

There is a leveling system in place from earning EXP from battling.
When you level up you get choose which stat to improve from:
-Attack
-Defense
-Synergy gauge (increases the lasting of the gauge)
-Support Pokemon (increase their stats)

Max level is 100

There is 24 support Pokemon to unlock and like 9 stages to unlock.
There is also tons of trainer items to unlock and buy with in game currency.
Also there is ~100 trainer titles to unlock as well.

So there is a lot of content in this game.

Now for some reason i want to see a Soul Calibur like pokemon game for Pokémon that naturally generate/carry objects with them. (Farfetch'd, Bisharp, Aegislash, Lucario, Alakazam, Oshawott evo's, etc.)

Alakazam beating other Pokemon over the head with his spoons would be hilarious.

I approve of this idea.

does this kill the SFV?

Not even comparable.

SF and Tekken are made for diehard fighter fans who want overly technical and complex fighting games.

Pokken is built on relatively simple battle mechanics that allows for complex combos.
The leveling system also plays a part in the game as it modifies character stats in 4 categories.

Pokken is a really fun game if you like Pokemon and fighters and own a Wii U.
