Good question, guess something appropriate for loong discussions. Not that easy to explain for me...

Important principle for me is to like myself and be comfortable with myself. As for guidance, my feelings and emotions give me general direction, while critical mind is trying to find ways to get there. So, basically, I simply do what I like?

What are yours though? :3

Live and let live. Love and let love.

I choose to live with empathy, universal kindness, and respect for others, even if certain edge lords and dumbasses find that to be "virtue signaling"

Be gentle, everyone is going through something you don't know about.

Before speaking ask:
Does this need to be said?
Does this need to be said by me?
Does this need to be said by me now?

What I say should meet 2 of these criteria:
Is it true,
Is it kind,
Is it necessary?

These are great...thanks for posting. I just wish you had posted 12 hours earlier before I put my gigantic foot into my even larger mouth.

The three questions hurtloam posted have really helped me to decide what does and does not need to be said.

There are a few basic values by which I try (many times unsuccessfully) to live my life. In simple form they are:

Community
Equality
Simplicity
Truth
Peace
Care of the environment

These are the Quaker testimonies.

I’d like to live by those values, too.

Simple Enough Perhaps For
A 'Scientist' to Understand:

Inhale Peace Exhale Love
Yet Never Allow Anyone to
Take This Breath Away Now Free...

Unlimited Through the Eyes of What

An 'Artist' Will Do:

Every Breath

Every Leaf Higher
A Tree Makes Creates
Breath Every Wing Higher

Butterflies

Color Flowers

Beauty Life Brings

Every Smile Higher

i Make For You

Creates

me

Happy So i Do...

Other Folks Spend

Their Days Trying To

Erase me Yet Give Will
Never Be Taken Away Now

my

Every

Breath
With SMiles
A Virtue Now
i Signal For All...

In Short:

i Am

i Create Love

Neither Afraid
of DarK Others Make
Or Cynical of my Force
oF LiGHT i CREaTE NeW NoW

There are a lot of principles I like, but most of them break down in certain situations, so I don't set anything in stone. I do what I like if I'm not overpowered, and when dealing with others I like to be helpful, courteous, friendly, and supportive. I prefer to be relatively harmless as long as nobody invades or threatens me.

I like the doctrine of minimal force - a good way of putting it is this, which came from Kung Fu on television:
Avoid rather than check.
Check rather than hurt.
Hurt rather than maim.
Maim rather than kill.

I like the bit of Desiderata that says "Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself"

I like to think, I suppose that's some kind of a principle. I also like to give my instinct and emotions a chance to be heard as well as my logic.

There are probably other principles I like to use, but I don't keep a comprehensive list anywhere.

Desiderata says it all. If I had to have a Bible, that would be it.
