If it was proper and legal to do so I'd sell my right to vote right here and right now

I wonder how much a person would pay for an extra chance to vote

Do you think there would be a market in this area

Would you sell your right to vote for a political party

No, because the person who's most interested in buying them probably wants to use them against my interests.

There is a market for it but each vote wouldn't be worth much. Like a few hundred I imagine.

If they can afford that much and are willing to pay that much, you can count on them planning to make more than 10 million per vote purchased.

I don't think votes being for sale is a good idea.

Although I understand why a person would give their vote up, considering the poor political choices on offer from the main parties.

Right to vote is rather Sacred thing for a countries Citizens, often , even if it feels like no change, Making your mark for someone or something always seems to carry weight . Even Elon Musk  attempted to buy votes to recall a sitting judge, at 100 usd apiece. per CNN news several weeks ago.

I'd sell my right to vote. Oh but the price would be way too steep.

People fought and died so that I can have my small say in choosing who governs my life.

How would you even go about putting a price on that?

The vote itself is next to worthless in terms of influence. If you could buy up a few hundred thousand you might gain some influence. But at what cost.

If everyone selling is expecting millions like bb, you'd be better off making a direct donation to whatever party is popular and buying some influence that way.

Absolutely not. There's no way one should sell their vote. It's the one thing that we have that keeps leaders accountable to the citizenry. Here's my reasoning.

The economy and market place are an example in which votes are traded. Each dollar is one unit of a vote. With every purchase, we vote on what is produced. Together, we are constantly electing the economy. However, some people have literally inconceivably wayyyy more votes than others, while many more people barely have enough votes to survive. It results in a system where a few people have a lot of power and resources, while others are struggling. It creates a system in which one person with many votes is in direct competition with the majority of people that function as one due to their limited individual votes. It's like the French estates. The few rich people are one estate, while almost the entire population is another estate. I don't like it.

Our political vote is the one diplomatic thing that maintains a sense of equality with all the other imbalance going on. It's obvious that money can steer elections and even getting a chance to run for major political offices requires lots of money and support from elites, but politicians still have to convince citizens which places stops on the elites' ability to be completely careless with the general population. It's almost like another check on the check and balances model. If any politicians gets too wild, the upcoming elections kick them out and a contrastingly different politician is elected. Otherwise, we might as well live in an autocracy and go through crazy cycles of seemingly benevolent leaders becoming corrupt because to maintain their power, they would have to please those around them, not the majority of citizens.

Personally, I'm for more democratization. I don't want elections just every two years. I want elections all the time everywhere. Make it the most basic foundation of any political system. Democratize workplaces. Rather than having little dictatorships (i.e. workplaces) making decisions that are ultimately beneficial solely to certain stakeholders (owners or stockholders) at the cost of anyone else including the dependent workers, have the workplaces be accountable to its workers. Give the workers a voice too. A lot of them have great vision and ideas that are silenced by their internal system. Use democracy to elect better leaders that are accountable to everyone. We'd have better employment, better leaders, better benefits, better compensation, better ethics in business practices, and ultimately better lives overall.

In summary, I would not sell my vote. In fact, I think we need more votes.

We had that going on last year in the US with Musk buying votes in a pretty blatant way.

People are supposed to be selling their votes to the causes and politicians for which they're voting. It's not supposed to be a normal thing to be voting for people and causes that aren't going to improve your life in some fashion.

People get that wrong. In the sense that you mean it, that's correct. You shouldn't be taking cash to vote for somebody or something that you wouldn't otherwise vote for.

However, voting is supposed to be a selling of your vote for policies and politicians that benefit you in some fashion. It's supposed to be somewhat transactional as you give them your vote and they're supposed to fight like hell to do things that benefit you so you vote for them again.

Yeah but if you had 10 million you'd slip it into an MP's pocket if you wanted something doing. You wouldn't buy a single additional vote.
