Absolutely not. There's no way one should sell their vote. It's the one thing that we have that keeps leaders accountable to the citizenry. Here's my reasoning.
The economy and market place are an example in which votes are traded. Each dollar is one unit of a vote. With every purchase, we vote on what is produced. Together, we are constantly electing the economy. However, some people have literally inconceivably wayyyy more votes than others, while many more people barely have enough votes to survive. It results in a system where a few people have a lot of power and resources, while others are struggling. It creates a system in which one person with many votes is in direct competition with the majority of people that function as one due to their limited individual votes. It's like the French estates. The few rich people are one estate, while almost the entire population is another estate. I don't like it.
Our political vote is the one diplomatic thing that maintains a sense of equality with all the other imbalance going on. It's obvious that money can steer elections and even getting a chance to run for major political offices requires lots of money and support from elites, but politicians still have to convince citizens which places stops on the elites' ability to be completely careless with the general population. It's almost like another check on the check and balances model. If any politicians gets too wild, the upcoming elections kick them out and a contrastingly different politician is elected. Otherwise, we might as well live in an autocracy and go through crazy cycles of seemingly benevolent leaders becoming corrupt because to maintain their power, they would have to please those around them, not the majority of citizens.
Personally, I'm for more democratization. I don't want elections just every two years. I want elections all the time everywhere. Make it the most basic foundation of any political system. Democratize workplaces. Rather than having little dictatorships (i.e. workplaces) making decisions that are ultimately beneficial solely to certain stakeholders (owners or stockholders) at the cost of anyone else including the dependent workers, have the workplaces be accountable to its workers. Give the workers a voice too. A lot of them have great vision and ideas that are silenced by their internal system. Use democracy to elect better leaders that are accountable to everyone. We'd have better employment, better leaders, better benefits, better compensation, better ethics in business practices, and ultimately better lives overall.
In summary, I would not sell my vote. In fact, I think we need more votes.
