Look at this. On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a man on the street asked this: "Do you like the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare?" The responses may shock you......

And, as an added note, please keep this discussion civil. Thank you.

h.l. Mencken said it almost a century ago and it is still valid- "nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." very sad and it bodes ill for the future of this nation, for as Thomas Jefferson said, "freedom and ignorance cannot coexist."

I get so frustrated with things like this and I'll tell you why.

This isn't representative of America. This is just base human stupidity and ignorance, manifested in a specific way referenced to geo-political structures. Go to any country, and pull something like this if media services are even allowed to do it, and you'll find this stuff. This isn't the first time in American Politics or the human existence that this has been seen, and won't be the last. This isn't limited to any age group, race, sex, nationality or other descriminable attribute of humanity other than humanity itself.

I feel disgusted that fellow humans find that someones lack of knowlege, awareness, and ignorance is an acceptable subject to make fun of. It's never acceptable to deride someone for their mental faculties, or knowledge. As someone who has been teased, and made fun of for just existing let alone being unaware and ignorant of subject matter from time to time, I get physically ill and uncomfortable when I see this done to others. Either inform and educate the other person, or leave them to their own innadequacies. Exploiting ignorance for humor is a despicable thing to do to someone.

I don't think it's funny...

This problem is global. Most people in Germany didn't like the former government, but they liked Angela Merkel.

I guess this means that this video is proof that a lot of us are Homer Simpson-like when it comes to understanding political stuff.

I know it isn't a fair representation of the American people, but it does demonstrate hat there are people who know even less about reality in politics than what they are told on the "news" or on talk radio.

Marcus Aurelius said, "Men are made one for the other, so either teach them better or tolerate their ignorance."

However, many people in America today are willfully ignorant, and a little mockery and shaming might wake a few of them up...

I've been linking to this a lot lately, but I'm gonna do it again because it really does give a good profile of the average Tea Party member and help to explain why they are the way they are...

http://blairrockefellerpoll.uark.edu/5295.php

Quote:
When asked a battery of “political sophistication” questions—factual questions about the contemporary government—Tea Party members outperformed Non-Tea Party members repeatedly. Specifically, Tea Party members were more likely to correctly identify the jobs held by Attorney General Eric Holder, Chief Justice John Roberts, and Vice President Joe Biden (Table 1).

[and yet]

Among whites, Tea Party members are more than twice a likely to identify President Obama as a Muslim.

The human capacity for self-delusion is astounding.

As an american who has conducted social experiments like having people sign a petition to end the suffrage of women... This is ENTIRELY indicative of america.

It is best summed up by the fact that 87% of congress won the last election as incumbents - meaning, they got re-elected... with an approval raiting of 10%... The american people do not approve, and yet, did not remove them from power

Ignorance knows no political boundaries, sadly enough.

Oh, I beg to differ...I assume that ignorance is the greatest of freedoms...
