I invite you to go to a third world country to proselyte about animal welfare, it wont go down well.

moreover humans are not naturally vegetarian, we are omnivores. Veggies are generally less healthy than those with a balanced diet. The main problem with poor treatment of animals is caused by the inherent cost cutting of our economic system, not the dietry requirements of humans.
thomas81 for once I agree with you.

we are made to eat both not just one or just the other your body needs a perfect balance some nutrients found more in meat than veggies in order to match the iron and protein from meat by being vegan you have to eat many combinations of veggies to compensate as well as possible dietary supplements or you could get sick from iron defficiency also for the record eating eggs is meat its eating a chicken abortion. I eat meat yes but thats not the only thing I eat I also eat fruits and vegetables and dairy.

By sitting around in a temperature-controlled environment, happily typing away on your Wal-Mart computer, being a good little consumer in the military-industrial complex, you're contributing to the deaths of countless animals.

Unless you believe that you get a free pass as long as evil "meat" never touches your lips.

I don't bother with anti-animal cruelty vegetarianism because it's essentially pointless. If you want to wash yourself free of the blood of our non-human kin, then forsake all of your mass-produced goods, to include the fruits and vegetables of giant industrial farms, and go live in the forest, eating nothing but moss and berries.

Beyond that, I call hypocrisy. In the mean time, animals are very tasty on a bun.

If you draw up a list of "excess humans" with the implication that they really should go, will you put your name on the list?

I'm not saying that we should kill off people to reduce the global population. I'm saying that as the population gets larger, there will be more people in need of resources in order to survive. In order to obtain these resources, the world may have to resort to things that are demoralizing. At one point in time, the world didn't rely on gigantic slaughter houses to supply everyone with meat. The world has become an impersonal place that depends on the mass abuse of animals, the environment, and humans in order to sustain its population. Interpersonal relations are also damaged by increase in population, because it creates the need to replace traditional societies with more modern ones. As relations between people become more impersonal, we become more like cogs in a giant machine. We rely on the work of people with lower standards of living to maintain our higher standards of living, and people with higher standards of living than us rely on our work to maintain their higher standards of living. None of these people on this chain of hierarchy have any personal appreciation for one another, yet they are forced by society take advantage of one another to satisfy their own wants and needs. As the population continues to increase, the magnitude at which this happens will increase. The progress and success of the human race will ultimately lead to its own demise.

I agree that people need to slow down population growth,it's just hard to put into practice.
It would help if the Pope would make a statement saying," DO not be fruitful and fill the Earth, mission accomplished, use birth control!"But then the little Catholics wouldn't grow up to be big Catholics and fill collection coffers.Papa needs a new Popemobile.
Or free birth control and sterilization.Cheaper in the long run and I'm sure their are lots of ladies that would getting their tubes lasered shut for free.I had no insurance at the time I had mine done,it should be free for women. And men, but it scares them for some reason.

I agree overpopulation is the real issue here higher population = more trees cut down for housing and depletion of natural resources increased pollution etc.

misdistribution is the problem, not overpopulation.

It really sticks in my throat when someone implies there are too many people.

if you got everyone in the world to stand together they would cover an area smaller than Iceland.

^^^^^And if they were all gathered there together there sure wouldn't be anything left
I agree about the misdistribution of resources, and waste.I can't believe what people throw out in dumpsters that could be donated to the needy.
But people really don't need over two kids.
Read the Peace Core's Manual Where There is No Doctor ,Werner
Chap 20 Family planning "Although most,if not all ,hunger in the world today could be prevented if land and wealth were distributed fairly, the growing number of people is part of the problem. If people keep having big families ,than the day will come when there is not enough land or food to go around -even if people learn to share."

And I meant no disrespect to any one of Catholic faith,I just don't think the Pope is on the ball when it comes to the environment. He should tell people to recycle, than I'd respect him.

There was a science fiction novel called Stand at Zanzibar. It was based on the observation that the entire population of the planet could be placed standing in the land area of the medium size island, Zanzibar.

Apparently, you have no understanding of the concept of "carrying capacity". Overpopulation has absolutely nothing whatsoever do with space. It has to do with the amount of resources available to support a population. If you live in a country that doesn't have enough food to support to support the population then that country is overpopulated. And no, it doesn't matter if you can support the support the population by importing most of your food, it is still overpopulated by definition.

carnivorous animals kill another animals for meat all the time. And when they do it, they do it painfully, much worse than when humans do it.
