This type of free-association brain thing is how I keep from going insane, since I have no job or girlfriend (really not surprising that I have no gf, as women tend to like employed men) and live with my parents (see above). It may sound stupid, but it keeps me on my toes.

Its important to keep thinking, yes. Posting on WP is how some of US keep sharp.

If you like that sort of thinking, some books on demographics will keep you occupied. It is a fascinating field and accessible to anyone of average or better intelligence.

I found your post funny and I wish it was true. It's very silly, but I enjoyed reading it.

I think the NT world will never get 'us' or adapt to us. It'll always have to be the other way round. I think society does go through periods of greater materialism and lesser materialism, though - but that more because of economic and political factors than anything else.

I also find your post funny, exactly what is the 'NT' world and what do you mean by materialism, I am a Materialist but I wonder if it is the same type. If there really is such a thing as the 'NT' world how the heck do you expect 'them' to adapt to 'US' when we dont really know how to identify who 'us' actually is. For example my parents and I knew full well that something was not quite right about me, but it took 43 years to discover what the issue was.

@ the OP post your musings all you like, but please realise that they are bound to attract heavy criticism when they are ill prepared and 'off the cuff' such as this one.

For once I agree with Mr Keet, finding a partner has nothing to do with having a job. It has everything to do with meeting people (hence having a job helps in this process). Being on the AS makes this difficult but not impossible, you need to make the effort to find associations that you can cope with, preferably (if you are hetero) ones that a not male dominated. I daresay Keet found his love via the church, you need to find a similar group to make acquaintance's ie supportive and not male dominated.

Please continue to post your musings and I for one will be less harsh in my response.

Methinks I should dislike having the edge of mine husbandry dulled.

I meant materialism in the colloquial sense, not the philosophical one. Materialism as in conspicuous consumption (which is more pronounced under certain economic conditions). I was not referring to the idea of materialism v.s idealism or belief in spirituality. I was also not making a value judgment, but I do think people on AS specturm would not be as adept at playing the conspicuous consumption game in order to win social approval because many individuals on the spectrum report a relative indifference to these things compared to the general population. I for one am more interested in my own personal goals, but society has certain expectations and respects certain things I personally find silly (having a certain car, an expensive wedding, a certain grooming regime for women.)

I also agree that the traits of AS are sometimes difficult to detect accurately, and that is part of the problem. The 'NT' world is the societal consensus that there's a normal way for people to think and act, and that deviations are a sign of mental illness or impairment. Since not that much is known about neurodiversity (although knowledge is increasing) I think the idea of the 'NT' world or 'normal' is a useful cultural concept - even if reality is a bit different.
