So I just biked 45 - 50 km (24 -31 miles) in -18°C ( -13°F) weather, struggling against bitting winds for a few hours.

I love living in the Midwest. I grew up in New England, the winters here are very mild in comparison. I think we had two inches of snow last year and it was on the ground for only two days. That hardly qualifies for a "frozen hell". Not too mention the people here are not all snobby and pretentious like they are up in the northeast.

Have you been to the Canadian Prairies?

Luckkyyyyyyy :x

20 years of Wisconsin winters have taken a toll on my psyche. The fact that I bust out the shorts once it hits 50(sometime around May lol) is sad.

Oh please, you Wisconsinites are dealing with paradise weather of 34°F while I have to deal with -13°F weather!

Are we talking about the entire Midwest, or just a subregion? I live around the Great Lakes, which has been hurting for years. The other area commonly identified as the Midwest -- the Plains states -- are doing just fine. If you live in North Dakota, you may be better than fine, thanks to oil.

Global warming is fantastic. It is making the Midwest a much more pleasant place to live. 8)

Summers have always been miserable, anyway. Droughts could be a problem, though, if they start happening on a regular basis.

Nothing there between those who are there and the North Pole except some picket fences.

With the windchill it's -26°F in Winnipeg right now. People are telling me that it's warmer on Mars.

This is nothing new. Outside of a few outposts like Chicago, Minneapolis and Madison, the Midwest is just not the economic growth engine it once was. People are leaving, and those that stay behind are ever older.

Of course, it's not just the Midwest. This is happening in the South as well, outside of Atlanta, Charlotte and the other extremely successful cities. Even in the Northeast, my home county in western New York has had no population growth for decades. This is far better than all of the surrounding counties, which bleed people. Most go to North Carolina or Florida, it seems.

In the USA, people are always moving from one part of the country to another. The Great Migration of the early 20th century depopulated the South of Blacks, and left a White majority in each state. Some would say that the least intelligent remained behind, as evidenced by predominant religious and political institutions in the region.

During the 19th Century, the Eastern states were depopulated of Indians, to make room for advancing Whites and their slaves.

Eventually, the West was also largely depopulated of Indians. California grew quickly into one of the most populous states, and people moved there from the East.

I grew up in Chicago, and have also lived in Milwaukee. I'm farther south now (Kansas City), with no plans to return to the north. I hate hot weather, so I'm not likely to retire anyplace warm. I like having four seasons. Plus, the cost of living in Kansas City is very reasonable.

It's not racist. Illegal isn't a race. 30% of those jumping the border aren't even Mexican. For example, here is an article about a smuggling ring that was busted trafficking Somali militants who believe in imposing sharia law by force.

Nazism=scum!! ! The idolatry of hatred for another heritage at its most rank and most intolerable form imaginable! We need more anti-racist biker gangs of mixed race and ethnicity!! ! I hate the idea of Nazis in America. It absolutely boggles my mind why the first black president didn't smash their little parties. If he does that, I could care less how many mistakes he made! Who cares! Nazi scumbags!! ! Racist pricks! Sorry. Nazi s**t infuriates me like nothing else. I apologize. Had to get it out.
