My neighbor used to pop in and check on me once in awhile, tell his wife told him it looked bad.WTF?He was just being a good neighbor.A couple times she called me to talk at night,I thought this odd because it wasn't something she regularly did. Then I found out those nights hubby was visiting my son.I think she was checking to see if I was home or up there. She must be really insecure because her husband is not that kind of man at all.
Both sexes can be prone to jealousy, sometimes they are real stupid about it.

So how differently did the men in class treat you after you hit them a couple of times? Did any other men around you change their behaviour at all?

They would start taking training with me more seriously, start moving better. At the very least, they'd start getting their faces out of the way. A lot of guys are also afraid of 'hitting a girl,' and I have to physically take their fist and bop myself on the nose with it to get them not to pull their strikes, or, alternatively, if they're not giving sincere attacks I can move out of the way and then swing around and hit them. It's not harsh or anything - it sounds mean, but it's just enough of a tap to wake you up, maybe make your eyes water a bit.
Of all of the men in the dojo, though, only Sensei and the head sempai of the dojo would ever really smack me if I didn't move right. It made training with them really fun - that sounds counter-intuitive, but really it's like being on a roller-coaster to train that seriously. It's scary and thrilling at the same time. If they treated me 'like a girl,' I'd never get to experience that.

Incidentally, the gender ratio of that dojo was close to 50:50, whereas dojos that treat women more 'kindly' tend to have a much lower ratio of women. I have yet to be hit by anyone at the new place I'm training at, and so far there are usually 4-8 men per woman.
