I am opposed to war, a pacifist. I don't even spank my kids. I tend to think that there is nothing to be solved by violence that can't be solved in another, better way.

If there were an invading army overrunning our country, on our land, then I might defend it. I don't think the war on Iraq has anything to do with the 911 attack. Remember? We bombed the heck out of Afghanistan, which has been called the most bombed country in the world. Osama Bin Laden was the devil incarnate, and 'getting' him was important enough to excuse the bombing of inocent civialians. Now it's Iraq. Why exactly are we after Saadam? Do people in the U.S. realize that we trained and put these guys in power?

I will not bring myself to arms unless it is to save my own hied or those whom I love. Unless you can show me how doing so will save them, I will not. Going into the army will not save my loved ones with any more likelyness than otherwise, in fact it might cause more war and could even bring it to my loved ones, effectivly hurting them.

I will not protect those who willingly put their life on the line, if they die, it is their fault. Any blame on me would be unjust.

With the previous two combined, I am unfit to be in the military, because I will not shoot the enemy, nor will I defend my comrades.

Placing me in the army knowing these facts is absurd.

Those who would impose blame because these individuals "did it for my freedom"... I did not ask them to, and for all I know, they did it for themselves.

I will not support that which I do not believe in. I do not believe it right to go to war over such stupid things. Give me a reason as to why we are at war with iraq, that is directly and undeniably related to iraq... and I still won't care. War is not the answer.

I agree with fighting, I support self defence, but defense is a reaction, not an action. If you go out of your way to take down another country because of a percived threat... you might as well be a bully on a playground whom supports their bullying on the premise that if they didn't bully, they'd be bullied themsevles.

PEACE HAS NEVER BEEN BECAUSE OF AN ENFORCEMENT OF WAR. PEACE IS THE ABSENCE OF WAR.

WAR DOES NOT EQUAL PEACE, NOW OR IN THE FUTURE.

MUST FIND A MUCH LESS VIOLENT BALANCE.

I would never submit to a military draft without a really good reason (thankfully Britain abolished National Service in the Fifties), but would have no problem with taking on a non military task like say compulsory volunteer or public sector work in its place. It would be a good thing to have something positive to do. I would only accept military service in the extremely unlikely event that my home and family was under attack - in short I would have fought in the Second World War, but not the First. I cannot see a situation where the draft would be necessary in the UK again - and I would never fight at the whim of some politician. Sod that.

I do not oppose the military, i oppose some of the wars they've been in. The war in Iraq is just another Vietnam.

I think it is smart to have a military, but only for counrties to defend themselves from invasions. I am a pacifist. I guess war is necessary sometimes (the one in Iraq is NOT necessary), but only as a last resort. I think that the US is to quick to go to war.

Even though I'm a girl, the draft would affect me now (equal rights for women suck sometimes). At 17, I am the perfect age if it were reinstated. I'm lucky that I'm an Australian citizen also because if I was forced to join the military, our family would go back there.

According to axelkat, though, I'm not eligible for the draft. Thank God for Adderall and AS! :D Sometimes.

Maine aint that far from canada. maybe you can go there. I dont think they will initiate the draft. the union lost more troops at antiem(spelling?) then we have lost in the war so far. Sorry about the medication mixup, i try not to assume and there i go again gettin it wrong. If they do intitiate the draft, they might have to draft females equally this time since the changes in society.

I'm glad Bush got rid of Saddam...

That said Bush is BS at the job of nation building... look at how many American soldiers are being killed by insurgent dogs...

This whole Iraqi insurgency could have been avoided if we had only planned the peace in Iraq better...

Half the people in Iraq want Americans to help them and the other half want to kill Americans...

I honestly don't know how we can help Iraq at this point...

The Sunnis are doing what they promised to do hundreds of years ago. Protect Islamic law. Sadam was not muslim and after he was put out, the insurgents decided that they would take it from there.

...there will not be a draft. The military does not want it and it would only weaken the institution.

What about women in the 18-26 age group who are pregnant or have small children and haven't volunteered. Would they be caught up in the net if there was a draft?

The way the US draft is set up,
only males would be called up.

I'd be for a universal draft, but
I'm sure that indeed women could
get knocked up to avoid it.

Probably should force them
to have abortions, if entering
combat duty.
