Plenty of civilizations which were elitist and stratified collapsed as well. So it's not exactly that 'full democracy results in collapse' but 'things tend to be ephemeral'

Jefferson thought noticeably different than the other 'founding fathers'. Andrew Jackson was a racist hick who began ethnic cleansing, but he was pretty for the working class.
