No, you have it all backwards. Fred Phelps is in my pay.

I am not sure that's actually better.

Hey, if I'm gonna be accused of being a "puppet master," may as well go all out, right?

Incidentally, doesn't MP's wild fantasy of a "puppet master" here mirror common anti-Semitic conspiracy theorists? WP Strident Atheists, do you really want to elect a bigot as your leader?

Is it bad that, even after all this discussion, I still can't get the idea out of my head that this thread could have been about something completely different? I'm imagining a half dog demon (created by a middle aged Japanese woman who can't draw people) somehow managing to put together enough brain cells to write Ninteen Eighty-Four. If InuYasha were the true identity of George Orwell, that would make his novel much closer to Shinto/Buddhist (and therefore theist) propaganda. But these are posters among the ranks of the Strident Atheists, if I understand this discussion correctly. If they are indeed the same person, but they act differently, I say that the one running for office should be the only relevant one. If he created a second account to argue against himself (as it would appear from the posts juxtaposed in this thread), there is no reason why that should take away any respect you may or may not have had for him.

Unfortunately, I was getting excited when I saw the title of this thread. I was really excited to combine Eastern comics, Western literature, and metaphysics. If Orwell really were part dog demon, would that invalidate any of his works?

Anyway, carry on, you Strident Atheists. I'll take myself and my belief in a higher being somewhere where it won't bother you (but I'll come back if you're actually interested in talking to me).

New incriminating evidence against AG; He clubs baby seals (probably an atheistic species...) for Jesus.

You mean Jesús. He's a hispanic friend of mine who hates seals.

Also, I am fine with clubbing baby seals. I mean, is clubbing baby seals significantly different than having cattle slaughtered? No, and that's the kind of honest rationalism that I think WP's Strident Atheist needs!

Do you want the guy bankrolling Fred Phelps as your leader?? I mean, isn't bankrolling Fred Phelps, the famous bigot, a major sign of bigotry?

If I was more intellectually dishonest, there would be threads titled "AG clubs seals for rationalism!" popping up all over PPR, closely followed by a barrage of other knee-jerk accusations.

Make one. Seriously, such over-the-top and gratuitous mud-slinging is the only reason this whole "Strident Atheist" thing is amusing at all.

This hurts my literalist brain. :shaking2:

Hey! I do my part; I spend hours every week convincing children that Santa doesn't exist, and that their dog didn't go to live on a farm. It's a tough job, worth doing. For someone who works on local issues, vote ryan93 as the leader of your non-religion!

How so? Mud-slinging is funny, all the more so when it is so hyperbolic as what has been going on lately between myself, AG, and MP.

We need someone with global perspective, not a narrow-minded provincialist! Strident Atheists, vote for a citizen of the world... vote ORWELL.

But don't Orwell and Inuyasha both present themselves as atheists? Conservative atheists, but strident atheists none-the-less. It would be different if Orwell wasn't pretending to be an ignorant fool (in his Inuyasha disguise) who does nothing but listen to Glen Beck and spew mud all over the place.

Wait, does Inuyasha present himself as atheist? Where?

You're from Ohio. That means that by definition, you're a narrow-minded provincialist.

No. Accusing someone of being a narrow-minded provincialist just because they grew up in a rust belt state makes you a narrow-minded coastal elitist. I happen to think cold weather, dreary flat scenery, and high unemployemnt builds character.

Orwell comes from an affluent, upper middle class suburb in Ohio. And, furthermore, even that's not good enough for him. He has labelled the entire Midwest "frozen hell" (showing, like many Americans outside of Alaska, that he has no idea what coldness really is) and rejected the formative lessons he learned there. Do we want Our Most Strident Atheist to be a stereotype, a sort of Ronan Noone or "Christmas witha Capital C" atheist caricature? I think not.

And if there is one place in America that I think really instills great values and characters that would be an Upper Midwestern College Town.
