The lies that legalization activists tell are amazing. Why would society want everyone reflecting on their lives and deciding they shouldn't go to work. See alcohol dumbs you down, but doesn't neccesarily cause you to have crazy revelations that distrupt your contribution to society. And alcohol doesn't change the way you think. Dude, what have you been smoking?

California top grade s**t  , Marijuana. Also I would like to remind you that that s**ts illegal, not because of some government conspiracy but because you activists are in the minority in your views towards marijuana. You see marijuana is unpredictable. Whether it causes people to develope schizophrenia or just unveils people predisposed to it, the government doesn't want people thinking "abnormal" or "crazy" thoughts if they can control it.

So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

If we accept the argument that marijuana works as a gateway drug as valid reason to outlaw it, why shouldn't milk be outlawed? It is, after all, a drug, and could work as a gateway drug if marijuana works as a gateway drug too.

Also, why are drugs that actually kill, like alcohol and smoking, legal? Those pose a much more serious threat to society than marijuana.

Thoughts?

perfectly appropriate remark actually. It's embaressing to see people parrot legalization talking points as if it's fresh and never before heard.
Actually, this is more appropriate.

...and it is disappointing to have more sensationalist arguments against legalization instead of sticking to hard facts. You talk of schizophrenia, but not the dementia and other issues brought on with chronic alcohol abuse. Marijuana can lead to emphysema, COPD, asthma; alcohol leads to cirrhosis of the liver, DTs, vascular issues, depression, and a host of other problems. Both have risks - so that makes the "these risks aren't acceptable because of my beliefs" argument relatively moot. Deaths due to material consumption of each of the three substances (marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol) are so astoundingly disparate that it should be obvious to most who would look objectively. That is not to say that those who drive impaired, on anything, are not a safety hazard... but to feel entitled to determine what another puts into their body? Bollocks. Simply put, one cannot justify the prohibition on the basis of risk in my mind, as that argument then places a demand for currently legal substances to be banned due to a double standard.

I think the problem is that there is a huge difference between "California top grade sh*t" and marijuana. The latter is virtuallly harmless, barring some potential lung effects, and the former is usually laced with God knows what. It's not the pot - it's the PCP in your pot.

You're better off asking why alcohol and tobacco aren't illegal.

Pot is probably illegal because that way it can have a higher market value and it's very probable that politics is influenced into maintaining the high price. I personally don't need drugs except a couple of cups of coffee per day. I've tried a few and they don't interest me. But maybe I'm different.

Drug use should not be counted as a crime. It's a public health problem.

I used to be a pothead.

It just occurred to me that the Health Nazis might try to make coffee illegal. This would not be the first time that wonderful beverage has been illegalized. If it is enjoyable, some Health Nazi or Bluenose Puritan will try to ban it.

H.L. Menkin once proposed that a Puritan is a person who lives in abject terror and fear that someone, somewhere is enjoying himself.
