California - no new textbooks without LGBT history?
No, it should not come to that. But it is good to mention that some people's contributions to history are belittled based on their sex life. A prime example was Alan Turing, a pioneer in the computer science field. He was gay and society's mistreatment of him directly caused his death. If he lived longer, he would have made more of himself.
People are taught that women and African Americans were discriminated against. Why is LGBT any different?
Why are we continuing to pull the White Guilt crud? Seriously, teach about stuff objectively stop trying to harp on and on about how one race is guilty of hurting another race. Part of the problem as to why people seem unable to move past the issue is people keep harping all over it.

So when we cover the Irish Potato Famine, are we supposed to skip over the part where the landowners who were wealthy enough to have land that would support crops other than potatoes were shipping their produce out of the country, while the poor literally starved to death? Or is that story ok because the ones who suffered were some of the whitest people on the planet?

Why do you keep harping on your own movements which such preferences that you will never flush your own crud???
Despite your harping on your spectacular emissions, you're still far from das fuhrer Rush, so give it a flush, and stop throwing it so much, as it ain't no fancy Kopi Luwak Coffee fit for your own failed gourmet coffeeshop.

I pretty much agree with what you are saying, especially with regards to people like Turing. The problem is that the majority of the gay community has a different opinion on what constitutes discrimination to the majority of the people of California. Where do you draw the line without endorsing a side in a present political debate?

both california and texas have a mission of producing a better human being. including bits about the NRA's contributions to our society or great GLBT figures in American history is history but a biased one that is a waste of our tax dollars and our children's time.
It would be fine if the educational system in California showed improvement while including this social agenda but it's not... their dropout rates have increased past 25% or more in recent years, and over the last decade hovered at 50% in many cities around the bay area and in the city of LA.

I disagree. California and Texas education departments have a mission to produce a well equipped student, in a safe enviroment. Creating a better human being is the goal of an ideology.

I heard an interview by George Lakoff once. He is a five-star general of the left and a linguist and cognitive studies professor at UC berkeley. That's what I took away from the interview.
And secondly, their sole mission is not to produce a better human being but it none-the-less a mission of k-12 schooling in these two states. Our Department of Education at the state and federal level wants to make students more sustainable-oriented and aware of man's pollution and CO2 emissions. They want us to be aware of hate and income inequality. Texas is its own country and does its own thing. But just as California's emission boards influence the nations, the same is true in education where they are very influential in shaping the national standard. They believe a more tolerant and socially conscious will make for a better society.
These two states are unapologetic in ideologically bending the education system to fit their agenda but it is what it is.
