If you are curious, here is the medication exclusion list (copy/paste from Redcross.org):

Quote:
– Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis or Sotret (isoretinoin), Proscar (finasteride), and Propecia (finasteride) - wait 1 month from the last dose.
– Avodart or Jalyn (dutasteride) - wait 6 months from the last dose.
– Aspirin, no waiting period for donating whole blood. However you must wait 48 hours after taking aspirin or any medication containing aspirin before donating platelets by apheresis.
– Effient (prasugrel) - wait 14 days after taking this medication before donating platelets by apheresis.
– Feldene (piroxicam) - no waiting period for donating whole blood. However, you must wait 48 hours after taking Feldene (piroxicam) before donating platelets by apheresis.
– Coumadin (warfarin), heparin, Pradaxa (dabigatran), Xarelto (rivaoxaban) or Lovenox (enoxaparin) or other prescription blood thinners - you should not donate since your blood will not clot normally. If your doctor discontinues your treatment with blood thinners, wait 7 days before returning to donate.
– Hepatitis B Immune Globulin - given for exposure to hepatitis. Wait 12 months after exposure to hepatitis.
– Human pituitary - derived growth hormone at any time - you are not eligible to donate blood.
– Plavix (clopidogrel) - wait 14 days after taking this medication before donating platelets by apheresis.
– Soriatane (acitretin) - wait 3 years.
– Tegison (etretinate) - at any time - you are not eligible to donate blood.
– Ticlid (ticlopidine) - wait 14 days after taking this medication before donating platelets by apheresis.

They also mention that there are some health conditions for which your doctor may tell you not to donate.

you are being prudent, because you have dependents who depend on you being in the picture, and if you went out there on the ice and slid under a bus or something like that you would leave them bereft, so you are doing the right thing. now if I was out there and slid under that same bus nobody would miss me in the way that you would be missed. I hope that made sense.

I think almost every WP member here (including myself) would miss you if you were gone. For many of us, this place is our family, our support system, and our entire social network, and you are a big part of it, whether you realize it or not. Apart from my wife, the people here are the only ones that I care about on a personal level (even if I never have met anyone here face to face).

:D and I would bet you make the "not nice" part of Cleveland nicer by your presence :thumleft: too bad we all can't just meet up sometime.

The reason why healthcare costs go up is because people want wheelchairs that can climb stairs.

low tech costs a lot of money also, most recently for me evidenced by the fortune I was charged for a broken arm [$53k].

Well, if you or I are ever on either of our sides of the Cascades, we ought to try to meet each other.

last time I was in Spokane [driving through on the way home from the army] was 1988. if I had a motorhome I'd probably drive that way lots more often.

Hmm... the starting price for treating bone fractures at a top Danish private hospital (out-of pocket) is around $ 8,000 (including 2 consultations, control, second opinion, full anaesthesia and an extra day of inpatient stay).

... and one can get a round trip ticket from the US to Denmark for less than $1,000.

And the treatment costs at several public Danish hospitals are significantly lower.

Hm, I've got some relatives on the west side of the state, still. If I ever visit them again, I shall try looking you up. :)
