google says yes to activated charcoal as an anti fart tool - the caraway seeds (AFAIK) seem to work by improving the digestion, dunno if activated charcoal does it the same way.

caraway seeds get stuck in between my teeth and hurt, plus the quasi-minty/mealy flavor and aftertaste are an acquired taste. somebody needs to put their essence into a pill. mebbe take the good stuff from both and put it in a capsule.

Anyway, it's rare that I ever have to quell flatulence, but rather enjoy the company as one would an old friend.

I've found the caraway seeds work just as well if you wrap them up in a cigarette paper and swallow with water. Strange taste, yes, toothpaste like.

would you say they reduce the frequency of farts, or their intensity? or a mixture of both?

Caraway seeds reduce both the frequency and the ferocity of stench, I'd say by over 50%. They are very handy eaten the day before an important anti farting occasion, about 3 or 4 teaspoonfuls does the trick. Farting becomes more nonchalant with the caraway treatment.

"anti-farting occasion" :lmao: I've just gotten somewhat sly about ducking around a corner for a bit, then flapping the seat of my pants afterwards to make sure it all wafts up into the atmosphere and contributes to global warming

gee, I wonder if he often had chili with cheese and beer for supper?

No chili in 16th century Germany, I'm afraid. But plenty of beef, pork, and cabbage.

How could I have forgotten beer? That's the cornerstone of German nutrition!
Luther once wrote, "I eat like a German, and drink like a Bohemian. Amen."

That, of course, goes against the popular stereotype.
