Political polls indicate that about two thirds of the country is not stupid which I think is a good sign.(I come to this conclusion since GWB had a 20-30% approval rating)

Formal fallacy here.
approvesOfDubya=>stupid
does not imply
disapprovesOfDubya=>notStupid

It doesn't really take a genious to disprove of Dubya, no?

However, it takes a really stupid buch of people to vote Dubya to office... TWICE.

correction, he won once. The other time, Gore won more votes and Bush won on a bull technicality.

Here is an interesting question.

Has anyone ever been a presidential hopeful, ran, lost, ran again and become president?

Nixon is the first who springs to mind. He was Eisenhower's VP, lost to Kennedy in 1960 then came back to win in 68 and 72. There are others, of course. Andrew Jackson lost to J.Q. Adams in 1824, then won in 1828. Grover Cleveland was president, lost a re-election bid, ran again and became president again. There are probably other examples, but I'm tired.

EDIT: Oh, Jefferson too. Duh.

I seem to remember one in the 19th century who became President, then later a Supreme Court Justice...just can't remember who.

2000 was necessary to break the Cherokee curse; every president elected in a year ending in '0' ( starting in 1860, and I think 1840 )died in office. By getting Gore out of the way, we're now free from the effects...;)
Filmore 1840 (basically died of hypothermia, if I remember correctly)
Lincoln 1860
Garfield 1880
McKinley 1900
Harding 1920 (I think...check me on that...;)
Roosevelt 1940
Kennedy 1960
Reagan 1980(almost...the curse has been running down. If Lincoln's doctors had treated him, he'd be a goner)
Gore 2000 (but by not serving, he lived to start the Global Warming fight)

Fortunately Dubya barely dodges it.
