A pregnant women is jailed for having been shot so the fetus got killed... she didn't fire the gun, someone else committed the crime against her/the fetus. Yet, the woman is jailed.

Why do Conservatives like when innocent people are jailed/punished?

I don't fully understand that situation, but it feels like the American government just wants to lock up everybody in prison nowadays. :|

We have the highest incarceration rate per capita...and I don't see that as something to be proud of.

Alabama is in the toilet

Also its kind of specifically conservative christians that like to have legislation passed that makes criminals out of people who don't follow their religious morals, or fit their image of what they think a good and pure person is.

Not to mention the fact that unless you have a strong family support system, once you end up in prison in this country it's damn near impossible to stay out once released. People either end up back in prison or living homeless on the streets.

IDK that is a hard one.

I mean the cyclist should have been being more careful, if it was a busy area he shouldn't have been going so fast he couldn't stop more quickly.

Also though she should have been paying attention and not on her phone if she's in a busy pedestrian/bicycle/traffic area.

The cyclist is clearly in the wrong but the lady on the phone also needs some form of punishment, put it this is way...if you talk on the phone when you are driving it's a criminal offence. How is walking on the main road while talking on the phone any different?

WrongPlanet rule:

Quote:
While it is acceptable to attack and debate beliefs (political, religious etc) it is not acceptable to make generalised attacks on the adherents of those beliefs. It is acceptable to say that Republicanism, Liberalism, Christianity, Islam are stupid but not acceptable to make generalised attacks saying that Republicans, Liberals, Christians or Muslims are morons. You could say that some of these people are stupid because of (reason) but not make generalised attacks on groups of people. Similarly you could not say "Christians are morons" or "Muslims are terrorists" or "People on welfare are bums". Confine your attacks to the beliefs and politics, not the people holding them.

This particular thread is a borderline case: it is phrased as an attack on Conservatives, but is clearly attacking a specific policy position.

As generally we need to all try and be a bit more civil, I've decided to lock the topic. However, discussion of the subject (lack of justice in abortion law, the Prison Industrial Complex) is absolutely allowed, so OP is welcome to resubmit the thread with a focus on the subject or the ideology rather than the adherents.
