All major nations spy on each other. You will notice that the U.S. is exchanging this crew of Russian "sleepers" for a bunch of U.S. spies currently held in Russia. Standard operating procedure.

One of the leading American heroes is a Spy: Nathan Hale -- I regret I have but one life to give to my country, but I regret being caught even more.

Yeah, of course friends spy on friends. Got news for you: the US spies on the Israelis too. Everyone spies on everyone, because in the grand scheme of things, alliances can (and will) be broken given the right circumstances. Knowledge is power.

You should (both) watch the video instead of just commenting on the title of the thread. It's kinda insulting that you'd assume that I have no clue about what goes on with spies.

All this video is saying (paraphrasing) is that people are pissed off because, when the Soviet Union dissolved, the Arabs lost their supplier of weapons, the Israelis haven't, and therefore the Israelis have a qualitative advantage over the Arab countries--when you are surrounded by people who would love to slaughter you, that's just good thinking. As for Israeli nukes, they're the trump card now and were when they were developed: when the Israelis got them, there was no guarantee that the Arabs wouldn't be able to overwhelm them in a war, therefore the need for a dead-man's switch. Now, they're what keeps Iran at bay. If at sometime in the future there is peace between Israel and the Arab states, then I'll be the first one to say "Get rid of 'em!" But until then, fear of their use is what keeps some nutjobs like Iran from starting a war with Israel.

Overall, this video wasn't worth the time spent watching it, because this is just more Israel-bashing. I've seen enough of this before. It is the bread and butter of sympathizers, Hamasniks, and Hezzies everywhere. Face it: Israel is here to stay. Am Yisrael Chai!

I for one have always admired the Israeli's style in their intelligence operations. French won't hand over the boats Israel bought and paid for? Steal them! Nazi war criminal turns up in uncooperative South American country? Snatch him out! Munich conspirators hiding in a major city of a hostile country? Stage a massive naval commando operation to take them out! That last one even featured a future Israeli PM dressed in drag while hiding grenades in his bra... All that, and I particularly like that they never confirm or deny that they did something, it's never "yes we killed that Arab" or "no we didn't kill that Arab", always "maybe we killed that Arab. I'm not saying anything about whether I agree or disagree with all of the things Israel does or has done over the years, I'm just saying that they usually act with panache, excepting the occasional Moroccan waiter or Turkish flotilla.

There are multiple countries nowadays armed with atomic weapons. Not all are very cozy with the concept of Israel as a strident taker of contingent territory. The trumped up threat of Iran as a nuclear threat which has as much reality as the weapons of mass destruction that worked so well to panic the USA into the Iraq fiasco may tempt the current screwy leaders of Israel to toss off one of their large stock of atomic weapons towards Iran. It then becomes very vulnerable to somebody with the capability to finally eliminate this very noisy nuisance and calm the world. Israel is a very compact target. Of course the rest of the world may become violently radioactive as a result. So it goes.

The Israelites ran the first major spy operation in recorded history: Moshe (Moses) sent in 12 spies to spy out the land of Promise. The operation of the City of Jericho is a classic and a prototype of many operations to come carried out by many nations.

Yes, Israel has a right to exist. Hamas for some reason, thinks it doesn't.

Sand, do you really think Israeli politicians are crazy enough to launch a first strike against Iran? They wouldn't profit from doing so, and in fact, their allies would desert them. The only way Israel is getting away with nuking anybody is if the country is being overrun, and defeat is certain. In that case, yeah, Israel would probably nuke the entire Middle East, not just Iran.

Remember the story of Samson in the bible. That should give a hint.
