Should we enforce American Nationalism

And become a independent country and withdrawl ourselfs from the European Union.

We have our own gas that we do not use we depend on communist China for goods.

Are we not supposed to be anti-communist :?:

As a country should we enforce Autarky the quality of being self-sufficient

We give aid and help other countries around the world but none of them are willing to help us.

What are your thoughts do you support American Nationalism or are you against the Idea :?:

I am all for it what do you think :?:

this sounds like a brilliant way to alienate the rest of the world even more.

at some point it will backfire, there are also plenty of natural and cultural resources not located within the country.

i would say any fundementalist nationalism will end in tyranny either for you or others, sometimes both.

there are places in far larger need on a daily basis in countries with much less to give.

a tornado is a very small event compared to pretty much any 3rd world country.

even when large groups of them form it is usually only property damage at a small to moderate scale, for the individual it may be quite severe.

even then if you look at hurricane katrina the international response was massive, wirth the whole of the eu

afghanistan, uganda, thailand and dozens of others all pitched in there.

linksies list over countries that pledged relief to the us

much went unclaimed of the 800million or so dollars offered, it was available.

When aid is required, it will be given. Don't pretend the US hasn't recieved help from foreign nations.

Several tornados ripped threw the south and no aid was given the reason we do not need their help when something like that happens we take care of it also.

afghanistan, uganda, thailand are not well known for helping us I helped clean up the mess hurricane katrina left with my church group for a mouth after it happened during my time in Louisiana we didn't see any aid from any country during our time their helping.

so because you in your infinately limited perception as a single person in a region wide event didnt see "any aid from any country" it didnt happen?
not to mention, how would you know what goods came from where?

you would be surprised what countries sent help if you would open you eyes to it.

most western countries only need help in the extreme events, where it is usually given no matter political situation,

again even a couple dozen tornadoes do not compare to many of the global events or even the daily suffering of third world countries,

As I stated the entire time I was their it didnt if I do recall when the earthquake in Hati happened last year America was the first to help them.

But I guess when a cateagory 5 hurricane hits Louisiana its not worth that much atteniton for anyone to help as quickly as America helped Hati btw I have family living their so the issue is a bit touchy for me.

The US needs to "withdraw from the EU"? WTF? Image

Do you mean the UN or NATO?

The US produces most of its own petroleum, and Canada is the second largest source.

No. There is nothing that says you need to be anti-Communist to be a patriotic American. There are many American Communists who are very, very patriotic.

Joker wrote:

Self sufficiency is good, but this is an interdependent world. Look at North Korea- their ideology heavily involves the premise of "Juche" which is a concept of total self-reliance. They are thus isolated from the rest of the world

Joker wrote:

Not true. After every major disaster in the US, its Allies and even nations of the Third World made efforts in whatever way they could to help. After Hurricane Katrina for instance there was a vast outpouring of sympathy and aid. In fact the Mexican Army was sent into the US, the first time they had been deployed on US soil since the Mexican-American War, however this time in peace, with the purpose of providing help in whatever way they could. Hell, after the Gulf Oil Spill, Iran offered to send experts to help assess the environmental damage and provide solutions. This offer was rejected obviously as the Iranian companies that would have sent people are embargoed by the US.

I'm against Nationalism as a concept. It is very 19th century and results in megalomania and jingoism. Jingoism is a real problem in America. Nationalism leads to serious problems, look at the late 19th/early 20th centuries. It encouraged colonialism and the violent dissolution of large nations. Though in most cases the people had justification to want independence. There was a lot of serious hypocrisy and many millions of people died in the name of "Nationalism". It is better to have a view of the big picture, though there is nothing wrong with loving the country you are a part of.

Most of the aid givien to us is from South America I dont recall Belgium sending aid to America after we where attacked by terrorists on 9/11 but if Belgium is struck by a natural disaster we send help right away.

However when America does get help from a foreign nation they help to late.

You dont mean "nationalism" you mean "isolationism".

Actually you're going way beyond isolationism to something akin to Kin Ill Jung's cult of national self sufficiency. Call it "hermit kingdomism".

Nationalism is simply making a cult out of one's own (not country) but ethnic group.

America, unlike most countries, doesnt even have one dominant ethnic group so we cant be nationalistic even if we wanted to be. Although we can and do tend to be "patriotic".

Well if you dont mind doing without oil and without most of the stuff sold in Walmart thats made in China you might like it.

the inreased price of tantalum alone in the us woul make this impossible,
electronics could become prohibitively expensive because of it.

and lastly, do not base foreign policy on the UN but actual logic instead.

Belgium's assistance to the US is primarily economic and political because, let's face it, we're a nation with a total population less than some of the larger US cities. Any "practical" assistance we can provide would be small teams of specialists, which we have done in Afghanistan. Assistance was also offered after Katrina.
