Socialism doesn't work! The closest you can get is pretty much Germany or Holland.

they and other socialist countries in the region all identify themselves as somewhat socialist, just because it isnt black and white doesnt mean its not socialism.
no single ideology will ever work so speaking in absolutes is pointless in this context anyway.

Sweden and Norway would be better examples. But I would contend that we've yet to see a truly socialist system to know if it could work or not.

You don't really give any specific plans for how your society would work. Some more details are needed.

Oh, and as a heads up: Socialism for the 21st Century is a term usually associated with Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela. Although I like his economic ideas, the man unfortunately tends to play rather fast and loose with democracy, so that may not be an association you want.

Norway isn't sustainable and neither is Sweden. Norway is holding up because of oil money and a low population. Sweden has very high unemployment and a lot of Swedes are leaving the country to work in other countries. Germany appears to be sustainable, but their largest threat is that much of the demand for their exports are from other European countries.

The Euro. Which is a failed idea and will not last much longer.

My understanding:

Capitalism has profits going to the company owners.

European socialism has a fixed portion of profits going to the owners and employees, with the rest being invested in quality control / process improvement.

Im not too big on capitalism for the same reason I don't like hedonism; over indulgence is a destructive habit that doesn't satisfy for long.
