Can you .... (oh, wait... you won't get me this time, Vigilans!)... Would you kindly define social justice?

When you believe in free speech yet paint someone as evil every time they say stuff that you don't agree with. :)

I'm one of them. I used to be in the Lib Dems. I'd still be in the party if they were a real liberal party that actually stood up against things whilst protecting people's freedoms, but they're not.

I'm actually quite liberal in a lot of fields, anti-death penalty, pro gay rights, pro abortion and so on. The only places where my view differers largely from the "left" of my country is in terms of economics and immigration. Sure I'm not a huge fan of the women's rights lobby and how it manifests in a lot of countries (empowering women by taking away their power), nor am I a fan of the increasing political "caste" that seems to be growing forth in Europe, but I'm largely liberal in most areas.[/quote]

This applies to me also. Liberal with social issues, conservative with economics and national integrity.

You know you are a left-wing moron when you believe the size of a country's economy is a constant.

If indeed the Iron Law of Wages is true that would mean that under market fundamentalism the fate of the majority of people is essentially equal to that of being enslaved... opposing that of course is to be a left wing moron. It's demanding utopia moronically to suggest anything else can happen, after all, as someone in a tweet said commenting on a demonstration by people simply asking to restore what existed 30 years ago... must have been unrealistic utopia then!

It's not hypocrisy if they "have no idea" about what's going on.

...If you plan to vote for a president that has expanded executive powers further than Bush ever did, reneged on most of his campaign promises, passed a healthcare bill that was originally pushed by Nixon and the Heritage Foundation, and responsible for passing and continuing tax cuts that have contributed to the deficit and failed to stimulate growth because "at least he's not as conservative as Romney would be".

...you always vote for a "Liberal" without exception.
...you believe animals have more rights than humans.
...you think everyone else "owes you."
...you believe "if you're white, you're not right."
...you believe Ted Nugent and Rush Limbaugh are evil influences.
...you base your arguments on emotion, rather than facts (actually, this goes both ways, so I will relate it to the perception Conservatives have of them).
...you believe the First Amendment only applies to those who favor your position/party members.

For instance you don't realize that most far-left people like to distance themselves from Obama and the DNC that are your main targets. You don't seem to realize there are different kinds of "liberals" with different views and they are not exactly alike just because they all fall into a camp that disagrees with your US-centric right-wing stances.

I actually know quite a lot of European left-wingers and the Faux News characterizations are surprisingly accurate descriptions of them. Of course, there are various camps on the left as there is on the right, however it seems that it is much more important to point that out in this thread, than it was for you to point it out in the right-wing thread.

On the "left" you have anything from hardcore communists to anarchist variations, you have social democrats, socialists, social liberals and so on.

On the right on the other hand, we only have laissez-faire, Bible-thumping, gun totin', tea party members who'd like nothing more than to watch your diversely populated left-wing camp burn in Hell, while we all watch from our seats with Jesus and the founding fathers next to us.

No matter how much butthurtness it causes you, if you're going to be honest you have to admit the "right-wing nut-job" stereotype is far more prevalent than the left-wing equivalent in the US. I'd love for somewhat rational people like you and Tequila to represent "the right" but the truth is to American conservatives all you European types are "lefties". Even the most fringe socialists don't have the degree of epistemic closure endemic to the American right. Even some conservatives admit it...

Sorry, the situation really isn't symmetric. If you really want to see some "left wing nut-jobs" you have to go to China and observe the Maoists.

It could be, or it could be that the stereotype of a "right wing nutjob" gets a hell of a lot more media attention. You could observe Francois Hollande and his French Socialist party, there is also the "labor" parties of among others Scandinavian countries, England, Greece and Spain which are "nutjobs".

Of course, it depends on the definition of nutjob, I tend to use "lacking contact with reality", which is certainly in existence on both sides. Of course, as you say, in comparison to the States, most right-wing parties in Europe are moderate to Center-left.

Even people like Dan Hannan and Nigel Farage? Dan Hannan is quite popular in the U.S. conservative circuit, I believe.

I can't speak for TM but, in general, my political views are closer to Hannan's than they are, say, to the likes of your average puritanical Daily Mail whinger.

Classical liberal I think is the term?

I don't think you can even really compare the European right with the American right. The European right aren't quite so controlled by "big money" interests and are not quite as keen on supply-side economics as the American right. Then again, Thatcher was economically right-wing even by American standards. Britain may have a bigger welfare state than the US as things stand, but your right-wing politicians have been more successful at rolling it back than the American right has been. The American right talk a lot about "shrinking government" but the reality is when they get in power all they ever successfully do is lower taxes for the wealthy and increase military spending. Also, the European far-right is more focused on ethnic nationalism and anti-immigration than the American right. The more extreme parties are almost openly racist to a degree that wouldn't fly well even with right-wing fundamentalists in the US. The priorities are just way different.
