Umm, what am I missing here?

I'll answer your question with a question.
What traditionally lives under a bridge and also causes mischief on message boards?

Not that I'm pointing any fingers at anyone.....

You'd better not, or you'd be in trouble. :shameonyou:

I disagree with it BUT those prisoners gotta have something to do. There's only so much work in running the jail so what are they going to do the other ten hours they are awake? They will just get into fights with each other if they are not allowed to be productive. It's not great they are providing services free of charge that private sector could be making money providing, but there's not much choice since they must have something to do all day.

The only thing I can think of is have them do a lot of agricultural projects to feed the poor and homeless who do not have enough money for food anyway. That way they wouldn't be cutting into the private sector so much, I guess.

With a German Pirate Flag on each side. :P

An inside joke but one that I'd LOVE to tell. :D
One of my previous avatars was the insignia of the 3rd SS panzer Division. Conservatives are commonly called nazi's by the left, anyway. There were people, a few in particular, with issues over that avatar (along with some of my earlier handiwork  ) and when challenged about it I blew it off as merely a German Pirate flag since there is a clear resemblance to the traditional pirate's jolly roger flag. I was joking, of course, but one them called me a liar as if that would bother me or something  . That person, who's name I won't mention, over the next few days would reply to all of my posts with "....said the boy who lied about the German Pirates" in an ill fated attempt to drive me into the corner of shame with my ears back and my tail between my legs. Didn't work,, of course, and the whole affair with that avatar only added luster to the reputation I already richly enjoyed in PPR.
:king:
I removed that avatar immediately after a moderator told me that it was against the rules of the company that owns (or hosts) WP's server and that company had complained about it.
So from now on whenever you see me end a reply with "says the boy who lied about the German pirates" you'll know the story.
:D

It's such a strange coincidence that you mention him. I was reading the favorite tv villains thread earlier today and thought briefly of Colonel Klink. How often does anyone think of or mention him? :D

Convicts have always had an important role to play throughout history.

Especially Australia, where the British dumped a large number of convicts.

The French used to send convicts to various islands.

I don't think that we have any major continents or islands that are in need of populating at the moment. Maybe if what's-his-name had been elected, then we would be sending them to live on the moon.

Our manufacturing sector could make good use of captive labour.

And, captives are extremely important to clinical and pre-clinical trials of new pharmaceutical products.
