It's because of that school massacre in Connecticut.
We had a similar but smaller rash of "gunz-r-bad" threads last summer after that theater shooting in Colorado.
The same arguments are made and countered with the same responses each time.

I had to look up "kerfuffle". That's the first time I've heard of that term....
