a damn about their precious time, why dafuq do you nerds waste your time with f*****g Pokemon and videogames and music and art and pointless s**t.
....Okay, now that that's over with, lets be a little more..civilized.

Tbh I don't believe in purpose and when I really think about it...I mean I sort of explained my views here
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt226789.html

Read thru for an expo, essentially one of the things I believe in very deeply and think about a lot is using your time wisely and being fair, mostly gonna talk about time usage here, but both of these things are common sense, it's just that when you look from an analytical, objective, non-human perspective, it really hits you that humans damn better believe you gotta be fair and make worthy usage of your time.
Those are really the only things worth sh!t, like principles that you base all your other endeavors off of. Never change these principles.

What really annoys and perplexes is that so-called "brights" or "rational-thinking" people are little effete sissies(sorry to sound corny but it really conveys the message here), and waste their time with things that I have found not to be worth anyone's time, such as the intricacies of...freaking Japanese porno comics.

I mean I don't think it's "bad", it's just how some of you might sometimes feel about other people practicing their religion, like whatever, its a waste of time cuz s**t aint happening from it.

And, yes, reading is great, I told you, I believe in training, as in mental training. Knowledge is power. Knowledge is light. With knowledge and understanding we can be tame and tame others. Even fiction, if it provokes thought and debate, is good.

The other kind of training is the training I do @ lunch when I make a balls-out attempt to make it to 7 Eleven for a protein bar by 10:45, and force myself to run back within 15 minutes so I'm not late for class.

Physical training quite literally improves the human condition and betters its functioning.

Tell me, what is the the point of this weak stuff?

yes, it's a little emotionally charged, but I'm honestly not aware of any offense that might come from this, its a philosophical question, not just beatdowns, you know.

Enlighten me.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you losing your religion? Life without objective purpose seems to go against most religions. That doesn't mean that people can't find a subjective purpose or meaning for their own lives.

So you're saying people shouldn't spend their time being happy, and should instead spend their time being sad?

Let me sum it up:
- Society has gone to s**t
- People do nothing worthwhile anymore
- People are distracted by meaningless garbage
- People only have surface experiences
- No one's thinking deeply about anything anymore
- Question everything
- He's looking for results and answers
- He's sexually frustrated

You're exactly where I was a few years ago, I understand what you're saying.
Don't expect others to understand what you're seeing right now, the majority of people do not see the world in this way: Mediocrity is victory now.
Just be careful, you can venture too far from the "regular" if you aren't conscious of what's happening; it can make you psychotic. (Thin line between madness and genius idea)

Be aware, though, I have been in this state for years and I haven't found any answers. I have read a few hundred books, I have watched countless lectures and discourses. Sometimes the answer is that there is no answer, but there is still a level of knowledge beyond language where you "know" ... Good luck.

Here are some good places to start:
Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind - Shunryu Suzuki (A decent start for meditation and introspection)
The Way to Self-Knowledge - Gopi Krishna
The Book - Alan Watts
The daodejing (or "Tao Te Ching")
The upanishads, bhagavad gita, and vedanta philosophy/science. (Explored by countless geniuses of the past - no coincidence: Huxley, Tesla, Einstein, Oppenheimer, Schrodinger, President Adams etc.)

Youtube: anything by Alan Watts
The Evolutionary Mind with Ralph Abraham, Terence McKenna and Rupert Sheldrake
Many of McKenna's videos
Osho
Paramahamsa Nithyananda has some good videos occasionally
Ma Nithya Sudevi too, if you don't take the new age stuff that seeps in occasionally too seriously
The "spirit science" series - whether you take it seriously or not (I do not) - the philosophies embedded within it are useful.

Movies (documentaries): http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/category/philosophy/
Waking Life
Examined Life
Philosophy: Guide to Happiness

Many people begin to sink into this mentality after watching "Zeitgeist" or similar films, they are also informative and great - but they focus on material corruption and greed. There's no real answer there, you'll eventually see that the corruption is not due to the capitalist system or government, there is a clear causality from human nature to the disasters we are witnessing.

You'll notice that the majority of the material is Eastern in nature. The so-called "religions" in the East incorporate Philosophy, and in the case of Vedanta; science is also incorporated.
So, don't make the mistake of assuming it's all about religion and God, faith etc... There is a reason these things have survived so long, especially vedic wisdom which pre-dates anything the Greeks gave us: not to mention they were far more advanced in science, referencing atoms around 900 BC.

Anyway I have to go for now.

This should be a general outline/beginner friendly.

So working out is "worthwhile" but enjoying music and art and Pokémon (three of the greatest things in the universe) are "meaningless garbage"?

People are probably thinking deeply about stuff more today than at any other time in human history because we spend less time struggling to survive. Before the industrial and agricultural revolutions and moves towards service-based economies, people were too busy working to think. Now most people in the Western world have thought critically about God to some extent, have questioned whether to believe religious leaders, have assessed their priorities and values, and have been educated to a much better standard than in the past.

You're mixing my words and the OP's words.. but yes that is his opinion as I've interpreted it.
I'd like to say though: Music and art are not a waste of time. Without music and art, we wouldn't have come as far as we have; today's "music" and "art" is a giant waste of time for the most part though

If you believe that "thinking deeply" about the Judeo-Christian God and questioning organized religion is progress... you've completely missed the point.
People have been "thinking deeply" about God since they first learned language (especially Sanskrit)
Economic progress, industrial progress: none of these things are included in what I am referring to. They are ways of making life easier (and people dumber).

This is what economic and industrial progress gets us:

Essentially I said, why dafuq are people who claim to be rational, analytical (atheists as a generalization) people waste their time on pointless nerd crap?

Like no offense but it doesn't help us progress?

I delved into these things many years ago and have already moved beyond them. I am a still a Taoist, though. I'm half Asian; I know that Eastern thinking is philosophical in nature, rather than God-centric.

I think other people could benefit from your list, however.

In regard to the original OP:

I honestly don't know. I think it's for bragging rights. "Who knows more facts".

I don't hang around atheists any more than I do fundamentalist Christians. They have made a new religion out of atheism and are often just as hateful and mean as the fundies, too. I chose to remove many of my atheist friends on Facebook because almost all of their posts were comments about how all non-atheists are "stupid neanderthals". Which is completely hypocritical since they are constantly complaining about how Christians hate anyone who is "different" and since atheists like to brag about how "inclusive" they are. Too many atheists nitpick from "facts" to build their own "reality" though they never realize it.

It's just another high school clique. Of adults.

Which is one reason I can only stand to socialize with one person at a time. Easier to figure out what they really think instead of being influenced by stupid labels and group mentality.

The answer is that even people who claim to be rational and analytical are still human. They still have feelings and even though they try to form their beliefs using measurements and objective means they still have irrational motivations whether they like it or not. Even if they try to discard them they have an irrational reason for doing that too. It's egotistical. Being a robot is a badge of honour for some people but it wouldn't matter to them either way if they really were the robots they try to be.

Also, desire is an irrational emotion but if you truly had no desires you wouldn't do anything productive because you wouldn't care about the results. You wouldn't play pokemon because you wouldn't desire the pleasure it brings you. You wouldn't work out because you wouldn't desire the physical or emotional benefits. You wouldn't even eat if you didn't have irrational impulses. You wouldn't have the instinct to survive because that instinct is emotional even if it does serve a purpose.

A living robot would just sit motionless and starve to death. I don't see how that's a badge of honor. People who are by nature irrational try and force themselves to be something different. Why not understand your irrational motivations instead of trying to pretend you don't have them?
