Quote:
Bob Crow: Tories are 'like Hitler' for calling for fewer Tube strikes
  • Militant rail union leader Bob Crow has compared a group of Conservative politicians to Hitler after they called for curbs on transport strikes.
Mr Crow, who leads the Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, launched an astonishing outburst after the Tory group on the London Assembly published a report saying that compulsory mediation should be introduced to avoid disruptive Tube strikes.

A survey of almost 300 Londoners to help launch the report found that half were in favour of some form of ban on Tube strikes.

The report said that Tube strikes cost the economy £48 million a day, estimating that industrial action between 2005 and 2009 cost £1 billion.

This literal champagne socialist really has lost the plot.

Hope you enjoy your council house on your nice big wage, Bob.

He is correct though, silencing the voice of organised labour is exactly the tactic applied by the fascists.

What the conservatives want is for ordinary people to be working longer for harder and for less. Only grass roots trade unionism can thwart Dave's plans for even more austerity and social inequality.

Also, the fear mongering about the economic cost of the strikes is clouded by short-termism and economic short-sightedness. When the pay and working conditions of workers are undermined, it reduces public spending power and health. Ultimately what is saved in industrial corner cutting is lost the longer term in social deprivation and the health costs of caring for stressed and ill workers. The real hyprocrisy rather than Mr Crow's residency, is Cameron's constant crowing of family values yet on the other hand attacking the family unit by forcing parents away from their children longer through longer working hours and under reduced living standards.

I'm with the unions on this one. Shutting down the unions is one of the first things Hitler did. Everyone must be regimented in service to supposedly the nation but the nation says that private profit comes first. It's worse than fascism really. I mean the people have very little relationship to that for which they're supposed to sacrifice. If one says "it's for the fatherland" one can say well that's our fatherland, we area part of it, but if it's for the bottom line of something in which you have no ownership stake, then who can justify that to themselves?

The problem is that using that kind of hyberbole plays into the hands of those who wish to portray trade unions as loony left dinosaurs. Bob Crow does the working man no favours with some of his rhetoric and positions, so can be painted as protecting the cushy pay and conditions of a sector seen as featherbedded and getting a better deal than everyone else - genuinely grass roots trade unionism, across a broader range of occupations than is now the case, may be what we need in combination with other factors which may serve to bind us rather than divide us further, public sector worker against private sector worker (which is what the government want - keep the serfs squabbling over the crumbs while their 1% buddies pocket the lion's share for themselves). He has an unfortunate reputation for this kind of outburst, which with his (admittedly inappropriate) occupancy of social housing while on a six-figure salary makes him an easy target.

Britain's Nasty government is quite open about wanting to suppress and reduce wages. The government of the Nasty Party thinks that if most of the population were slaves, Britain would be great again. The Nasty Party government is an enemy of British people.

That I am aware of the Nasty Party reference shows that I know something about it... what about this one. "Lower than vermin"... that's what they are, Aneurin Bevan was right.

Frankly, Cameron's "Conservatives" can go to hell. And stay there.

On this we can agree.

Yeah, I've been around a bit, I was on the staff 2004-5. I didn't post here for a number of years, visited briefly last year. Back now. :)

I2 possibly - I was involved in that for a few years before handing over to Odeon. Have been off most sites for quite a while now, I had a small board of my own but wound it up a few months ago as it was pretty quiet.

I live in the UK and Xenon13's assertion about the Tories is pretty accurate. I personally think Aneurin Bevan was a little too kind in the comments he made about the Tories if this lot are anything to go by.
