Do you sometimes parodying of your country national anthem?

I wonder, I'm Pole, when my country was in a deep recession in the 80's, when communism in Poland was dying, and stores a state of permanent shortage of everything. My people even publicly sang the national anthem with the revised lyrics of the first stanza

instead of:
Jeszcze Polska nie zginęła,
Kiedy my żyjemy,
Co nam obca przemoc wzięła,
Szablą odbierzemy

Poland has not perished,,
When we live in,
What alien force has taken,
We take back with Saber in hand

was sung
Poland has not perished,
while the chicken in the pot.
As the chicken ware coocked, eat it piece by piece.


I wonder if the Americans, British, or French, sometimes parodied sing anthem of their country, or is it prohibited?

In my humble opinion, the Americans, the British and the French have a very beautiful anthems except the Polish national anthem, as the Polish national anthem, is the most beautiful in the world, but this is subjective view

Other countries I don't know about but it is difficult to parody the British anthem because of the way its written, not because its unallowed. Its a song which kisses the queens arse.

So I refuse to acknowledge it anyway.

I dont know of any parodies of the Star Spangled Banner.

The song is itsself almost a parody- of on an older British upperclass drinking song that started out "to anacron in heaven". Anacron was an ancient greek philosopher admired by a club of aristocratic british amateur singers in the 1700's.

But many people have done recordings and public performances of it that are worse than parodies.

Roseanne Barr being the most infamous.

Comedian Albert Brooks did a great rountine around 1980 called "Rewriting the national anthem" in which he envisions what would happen if we tried to replace the song, by inviting the public to create a new national anthem.

My official national anthem is too embarrassing to think about and in itself sounds like a parody, oddly though we like it in reo Maori which most of us don't speak but somehow find a wealth of warm fuzzie feelings in hearing...

Back in high school, whenever we did the Pledge of Allegiance, I would suddenly scream in German and give a Nazi salute. I thought it was satire.

There aren't any parodies of the British national anthem that I'm aware of, but there's God Save the Queen by The Sex Pistols.

I don't like our national anthem. I like the music to 'Jerusalem' better but the lyrics are a bit strange and religious (still better than God Save the Queen, though.)

I think "too embarrassing" is a bit harsh there, mate. Not the most inspiring anthem by any means, but it's a solemn hymn so I wouldn't call it a parody. It beats the Australian one, although I still think we can come up with something more inspiring (in English and Te Reo).

It isn't even the same melody or lyrical arrangement though.

The title is where the similiarity begins and ends.

I remember one of these awful radio evangelists who filled with outrage told the listeners of people singing "God is a lesbian, God is a lesbian, God is a dyke" to the tune of God Save the Queen.

I don't know - I find it a better fit than Rule, Britannia! which is too aggressively imperialistic for my tastes. It's a patriotic song, a reminder of our imperial past but not something I would want to use as a UK anthem today.

There isn't one single anthem that I think could replace God Save the Queen for the entire United Kingdom.

Perhaps someone would like to create a Radio 4 Theme-style medley that could act as a new National Anthem?

Rather klutzy songwriting.

Wouldnt it be simpler to change 'God Save the Queen' to "God's a drag queen".
