Joss Whedon Under Fire After Comparing Ivanka Trump to a Dog
And then he took it further, characterizing Ivanka as a “Pekingese.”
This is not the first time a first daughter has been compared to a dog

these celebrities really should just shut up about politics
they act like the stuff Trump says is the worst thing in the world but they are meaner and nastier
Joss Wheden highly overrated by the way, these comic book movies which are more visual pornography are the bane of the industry, even more than Meryl Streep Oscar-bait. I guess I liked Toy Story?
You think they should have less rights than you because they have achieved success? Curious.
Where have I heard that construction before?
I haven't looked into this, but it seems that many people identify with certain celebrities. They read all about the details of the celebrity's life and may adopt simulations of aspects of the celebrities image in their own life: wearing a certain kind of clothing, taking selfies in certain poses and so on. They may profess belief in the political, religious or philosophical ideas they believe the celebrity holds.
It seems to be similar to the principle behind lifestyle branding. The customer is not buying an Apple device because of its specifications, but because owning it will somehow imbue him with the qualities of Einstein, John Lennon and so on. Everyone seems to be susceptible to this to a greater or lesser extent. It can be a fascinating thing to watch.
I don't think an interest in the political views of celebrities like Joss Whedon and Donald Trump is going to fade while homo sapiens exists.

Useful idiots are even more useful when they're successful* and I think you are really overestimating how many people want to hear what Joss Whedon says about politics, I would imagine even most of the people who like his work(I'm sure the shapes and colors are very stimulating to them) don't want to hear him run his mouth on politics. Leftists haven't seemed to figure out that this DRIVES resentment. Celebrity culture in the US is a cancer.

Trump has a million times more real influence than Joss Whedon ever had, even before being elected. You can't compare. People have always made fun of the elite; the caricatures of Marie Antoinette were not all in good taste.
I'm sure Ivanka can stand up for herself. A lot of the people Trump has been attacking have a much harder time defending their honor, on account of being poor/opressed/disabled.
It's possible to say that Whedon's political commentaries are not ok without attacking his work. It only demeans you.

While they have a right to talk smack about politics that does not mean they should. But the again, this is far from only a celebrity problem.

I can't help it that it just so happens that celebrities that make fools of themselves talking about Trump so often are professional hacks. Maybe I should have more respect, this is the guy who wrote 'Alien Resurrection' after all. Whedon is not like you and me, he is a visible public figure with plenty of influence not that it matters to this fact but his hypocrisy is noted.

I don't particularly give a s**t about Whedon; it's you I worry about. Attacking people in that way won't do you any good. These media characters feed off each other, by scoring points with the crowd they are already in. They have no interest in building bridges. But normal people should stick with their standards and not poison the debating climate. It becomes a habit, and then suddenly you find yourself really hurting someone without meaning to.

I would say the climate is already poisoned and my contribution to it is minimal, in some situations you either have to fight back or get shouted down. If people are interested in building bridges then they have to meet halfway, otherwise it will be a game of winners and losers and nobody wants to be the loser. If somebody is personally hurt by something I've said then they should discuss it with me in private.
You might be right. I am not interested in Joss Whedon's views on anything but Firefly, which I quite enjoyed. I don't think anyone should call women dogs.
I think Donald Trump represents the complete triumph of celebrity culture in the US.

I totally agree!! IMO, not only does it drive resentment, but, in MY case anyway, it fuels my excitement, for this administration. The more the Left belly-aches, the more excited I get and the greater and greater my hopes are, for President Trump's success----and, I'm thinking there's ALOT of people feeling the exact same way, as there's already so much talk about 2020. I get excited everyday, anticipating how President Trump will sock-it-to the Left, and look forward, with GREAT hope / anticipation that he will continually do it, for the next 4 years, straight, just because the Left is acting like such big babies.
I also agree that the celebrity culture, is a cancer. The only reason they have any influence, is because they have a platform, cuz they're public figures----it does NOT mean they have more knowledge / intelligence; they're NO different / are NOT any more special than a policeman, teacher, waitress, janitor, burger-flipper, etc.

is that really a good way to run an administration? consistently socking-it-to a group of citizens and (IMO) deepening the divide instead of making sure as much people get what they want, something most people can agree with?
i don't want to think about 2020. i don't want the political climate to be a constant election season. i believe we should focus on the here-and-now (climate change an exception) and worry about elections when they approach.
agreed. they have more money, on average, but that means jack when we're all gonna end up in the ground sooner or later anyway. character matters more IMO.
on the other hand, some of them are bound to have drones dedicated to defending whatever crap they spew. that might help with inflating their ego.
whiners are gonna whine. best to just let them embarrass themselves, drown out the noise and move on with our lives. it's not like ivanka is totally helpless here.
