We are all in different wealth groups, no matter what ideology we subscribe to. I am a conservative and I don't really care about the wealthy exclusively. Why do people say things about conservatives acting only for the wealthy when only few conservatives seem to truly do that?

I am not a conservative, but I don't believe that all conservatives are concerned only for the wealthy. Conservatives believe that aid to the disadvantaged should not be the concern only of government.

Sometimes, I think the only people intelligent enough to vote where I live are the ones with good jobs and salaries because they majority always vote Republican and there are a whole lot of poor people where I live although recently, gaming casinos might be encouraging more to vote conservative. Ironically, gambling is a sin but money and enterprise trump that in the long run.

Conservatives, at least in the US, tend to be in favor of smaller government with less regulation over free enterprise. Such a philosophy inherently is beneficial to business. Unfortunately political mud-slinging has prompted some to interpret this in oversimplified terms of Republicans being in favor of money and business and Democrats being in favor of the people.

Classic "divide and conquer."

Even if you don't believe in conspiracies, the fact is that real power is wielded by perhaps the top 0.01% of wealthy Americans. These people have big money...more than you and I can really comprehend having, and both the Democrats/Liberals and Republicans/Conservatives compose their members.

The plebs (so to speak) are best controlled by keeping them fighting amongst themselves. Polarize issue...polarize the electorate. They continue setting the big picture agenda without interference from the masses.

I think many Republicans are so sold on the notion of an all knowing, all mighty free market that they honestly believe will correct all social injustice, and make everyone at the end of the day rich without interference of the government, civil rights organizations, or labor unions. They believe the best way to accomplish this is by coddling the rich who will fire up the engines of capitalism to bring about the market's second coming. The Republican leadership on the other hand isn't so naive - rather, they know on which side their bread is buttered on, and so coddle the rich with tax cuts and sweet business contracts to get those political donations to keep them in office.

The state I live in is also in full revolt against President Obama so all of them vote Republican just because Obama is a Democrat.

As opposed to what, prosperity and happiness through government? Hey, I guess it beats working for a living.

More like allowing economic growth here, lest that economic growth take place somewhere else.

When did I say that prosperity didn't come from the private sector? I have a problem with the notion that the market needs to be unregulated, and that it's somehow a thinking, omniscient thing that could never harm the hard working.
And as far as prosperity happening somewhere else - that's exactly what's happening with the free market, as big business is allowed to go overseas, leaving not only individual American workers, but in fact whole communities without a hope or a prayer.
And yes, that is heartless.

The Republican party has been the party of the wealthy elite for generations. That's just how it is. They have brought social conservatives into the fold with some sideshow issues but when in power their primary objectives are always tax cuts which primarily advantage the super wealthy and deregulation. Over and over and over. I'm not talking every conservative. I'm talking about the Republican elite who run the party.

Some social conservatives have figured it out but the show goes on.

I would have thought the Republican party was a fine example of government working the way free markets say it should.

From what I gather it seems like a lot believe it should be no concern of the government whatsoever, and seem to be deluded into thinking charity would adequately make up for having a social safety network/welfare programs to help those financially struggling....

In reality both are just concerned with filling their pockets....and we have a corporate-ocracy....
