Much has been made of an increase in kidnapping over the past few decades, leaving many parents afraid or causing others and authorities believe that a parent shall not let their kid be a free-range kid. What they fail to understand is that stranger kidnapping remains rare and is not the kind of kidnapping that has increased over the years. What has increased his divorces leading to custody disputes and kidnapping by the non-custodial parent who's mad the court awarded the other parent custody.

Kids are under no more danger from being kidnapped by a stranger than they are from having a heart attack, a fact that's stayed true for a long time.

Maybe I can calm their fears: your kid is most likely to die from heart disease or cancer, and the people most likely to rape your kid are your relatives, your neighbours or the kid's teachers. YOLO.

People need to stop watching the news, it's making them too paranoid with its ridiculous sensationalism. I try to avoid the news whenever possible except for the weather forecast, and even then they make a passing shower sound sooo horrible.

There are studies that suggest more kids are hurt or killed in accidents from driving them everywhere than if the kids walked as we did as children. Be home for dinner or when it gets dark was the only limits we had growing up and we survived and were healthier because of it...
