Should the American flag be banned?

Given the historical connections between the American flag and the oppression of Native Americans and the enslavement of Africans, should the American flag be banned from display on government buildings? Furthermore, should private individuals be prevented from flying the flag, due to it's status as a symbol of hate?

uhh, I'm pretty sure it doesn't have that "status" in the first place. Especially since actual hate-groups often have rituals for burning that same flag.

It seems like history really is about winners and losers, where the winners are not held to the same standard of conduct. The US government has worked as an oppressive agent in the past while condemning enemies for crimes against humanity. The one event that rocketed the civil rights movement was World War ii and what happened during the holocaust and this was subsequent to the Indian Removal Act which was the stripping of Indian land, in exchange for land elsewhere. See, what happened is these epidemics of disease harmed the Native American populations so the government, and I am not supporting what they chose to do btw, decided the tribes didn't need their traditional land holdings. They were too large. So what the government wanted to do was give them smaller parcels of land.

Maybe it is something Americans need to consider when looking at the flag.

Yes, the government, at times, tries to help Native Americans but at the same time, has done a lot of harm as well, especially when they insisted Indians give up their culture, language and way of life by sending their kids to boarding schools where they learned European/ protestant culture and were required to speak English and the US flag does represent this type of oppression on and off during history. Even now, Native Americans explore their lost culture you see disgruntled folk trying to erode this process by saying they aren't blending in or assimilating but they have done a lot of fighting in a variety of wars for the US.

But if you want the CSA one banned, you have to include the good old Stars and Stripes; far more oppression and murder have been done in the name of that one. Or, you're a hypocrite.

Our country makes mistakes. But I love my country. It's like a prodigal child, mixed in with a parent figure.

Either you ban all flags or none of them, there is skeletons in all our closets and its not as this stuff is in the past for this country since it continues till this day. I don't think there should be any laws protecting the flag or that we should be required the display it tho, I feel like people can make that decision themselves.

Well, I don't have a problem with banning the flag. It's kind of foolish to wave a flag around in honor of your country. It's a piece of land. It's not something to be proud of.

Freedom is dirty.

But never the less, go to a Muslim country
and live a while and come back here and

AND TO be clear, I realize this is just a rhetorical question in response to
banning the Confederate Flag, where black folks are not free and slaves; but

I live in a country that allows me to do whatever the F I wanna do; how cool is that;

The laws of the country ranging from local to state to federal
work for me; 'cause I am smart enough in both logic and
street smarts to make the laws work for me.

There's a huge difference between a symbol that represents something that was founded with laudable goals and ideals which has been repeatedly subverted for horrible things,

and a symbol that represents white supremacy, according to the people who created it.

It's next to the line where it talks about killing them and taking their land.

So is the Stars and Stripes.

that was my point, there's no such line in the american constitution, there are 3 in the confed constitution about slavery.
