According to the article, this fragment may be one of the oldest known, possibly going back to the second Caliph, under whose reign the Quran was finalized. Where are our Muslim posters? They'll love this one.

I don't know how world-shaking it'll be for Islam but it'll at least be the pride of Birmingham for a while.

A while back someone posted some article about how coins minted in the Arabian peninsula during the time Mohammed is supposed to have lived all had Christian crosses on them. The author conclude that it took time for "Islam to evolve". But this finding seems to show that the central text of Islam already existed in essentially its present form right after Mohammed's lifetime.
