It's almost a cliché to be hating on feminism, almost to the point where it's cool to do so.

Is there any good that can be said about feminism? Let's take a break from all the scandals and contradictions that plague this concept and start talking about all the positive aspects of it. We might just need it.

Not only is feminism an extremely fragmented concept (as demonstrated above); several of these variants have mutually exclusive and opposing views on a wide range of political and social issues.

I was opposing it before it was cool. You telling me I can't enjoy the fruits of my labour? :P

Why, yes! Its adherents have become fantastic at messing up the narrative and undermining the rest of the progressives.

It effectively birthed Milo Yiannopoulos. That's sort of a positive?

Sure. There will always be a market for comedy.

Anything that makes mouthbreathing reactionaries squeal hysterically can't be all bad.
Promoting egalitarianism is generally a positive thing.

It was useful for females getting equal rights and not being treated like second class citizens. However, anymore it seems to be about female superiority or trying to convince people there is no difference whatsoever between the sexes.

Also the last feminist I interacted with IRL was a jerk, she thought it was ok for her to boss everyone around and everyone had to respect her but she can just treat people however she wants. So I admit that has added some to my negative impression of current feminism as well.

Historically, it's done a lot of good, it's just gotten shittier lately, with the anti free speech anti due process wing ascendant.

Mmhmm. Certainly wouldn't be hating too hard on first and second wavers. Well, with some notable exceptions of course.

It would be really bad in this economy if women still just belonged in the kitchen.

The first and second waves are still relevant in most of the world.

I think feminism at its core is a positive movement that aims to end sexism and promote female equality. It just goes too far sometimes.

I guess I'm in the minority here, as I see third-wave feminism as an almost universally positive movement, and I see most people who disagree as heavily misguided. Also, being against hate speech is not being against free speech. Twitter is a private company, not a public forum, and has the absolute right to ban people for being hateful.

I find a lot of people don't understand feminism in general, or what defines the different 'waves' and therefore many attacks on feminism in general and on third-wave feminism specifically are motivated by ignorance more than disagreement. Extremists existed within both second- and third-wave feminism and third-wave feminism in many ways is defined by addressing major internal and external criticisms of the second-wave - that's not to suggest that third-wave feminism doesn't have it's own flaws but it's safe to assume at some point another wave will appear to address those criticisms (with flaws of it's own...).

No. At least not about modern feminism, wich is cancer...

It used to be a very important thing, back in the 19XX years. I was raised by a feminist born in the 70s, and what they did was good and important. It served equality, and it did its job. Modern day feminism is about the same as modern day environmentalists. They are the remnants of a once very important movement wich already fulfilled their primary goals {at least in the western world}, got unnecessary today and therefore turned extremist and ridiculous. They arent against sexism, they turn sexism around and call that their new "equality". And you cant argue with them in any capacity because they dont follow logic, they follow ideology. And as history has shown more than often enough - bad things happen when to much people blindly follow ideologies. Modern day femisim is harmful, for both genders (and all inbetween, whatever). Yes i know exeptions exist, but there is a saying in my country wich would translate to "exceptions prove the rule"...

So to finally say something positive about feminism: It was good to have it in the last century...

Peace

I don't think environmentalism has fulfilled their primary goals, perhaps when we don't virtually rely entirely on fossil fuels for our vehicles and renewable energy becomes much more mainstream...as well as figuring out a solution for disgusting land-fills and when recycling is a mandatory public service to ensure everyone is able to recycle. Then I'd say the goals of environmentalism have been more fulfilled.

I wonder what the consensus is from current feminism...as to what it take for their goals to be full-filled.
