This is a question on Teleology -- the idea that everything exists and/or happens for a purpose. Examples include "Humans were created to worship God" and "Noses were designed to hold eyeglasses". Another common form expresses the ideas that "All things happen for a reason" and "There is no free will".

My question is simple: Do you believe that the observable universe is somehow teleological in nature?

I believe patterns arise out of chaotic order not out of design/greater purpose but out of hit and miss. patterns are never perfect and this means that they can change - their outer layers are fuzzy so that interactions can occur.
the real question is why does CHANGE occur? what's the point of change? why not life is one thing and it remains one thing? were the changes destined to be that one way or are there an infinite number of trajectories that they could have taken? or maybe all of these trajectories are taken at once? maybe there is no past/ present and future and change is an illusion... therefore all possibilities are realised at once

I say "yes", everything is energy, and all known kinds of energy have a "purpose"; it's called "The Force".

I subscribe to Dr. Rupert Sheldrake's idea that the observable universe is based on habits;
If the past consists of habits that Purpose A was pursued, then Purpose A becomes like an end-goal;
but if past-habits pursued Purpose B instead, then the «Purpose» end up being more for Purpose B, etc.

I also need to point out that questions like this have the issue of semantics. What does «in nature» mean you ?
For some people (or philsophers) may contend that «in nature» could be interpreted to mean «in accordance to the mind of God» but then there are multiple interpretations/definitions of what is often referred to or called God.

I have mentioned before in the past that I view existence as what is essentially a «technological» phenomenon. Something of a gigantic so-called «A.I.» system (although its self-learning mechanism is so advanced that referring to such «intelligence» as «artificial» becomes somewhat of a mis-nomer; due to the human-species or other so-called «sentient entities» being the actual artificial-intelligences rather than true/real/genuine-intelligence).

Perhaps it's more than Verbal Think among the options i've used Least Across
