Do you think your autism is partly responsible for pushing you left or right?

I think in my case it has. Since I'm unable to see the world in the same terms as norms, I am largely surrounded by right wing thinking people. The leftist position just makes sense to me as a result.

Certainly. Autism has played a role in my withdrawal from and complete indifference to politics in spite of the external stimuli trying to pull me in.

Most norms are politically apathetic so I'm not sure you can pin that on autism. If anything, our tendency to withdraw from the sheep means that if your autism influences you politically, it will make you partisan.

I suppose. I don't think of it in a vacuum if that makes sense but it is a part of my person and my life experience. I've always been an independent minded person that has had trouble with authority, my politics came to reflect that. I would never point to one specific thing, who I am and what I believe is a accumulation of a lifetime.

I think it's mostly just me and my upbringing. I'm a hard nosed cynical person who hates ivory tower elitism and pretentious humanitarian ideals but I've also come to be collectivistic so that puts me somewhere in the centre.

The (apparent) fact that the social expectations, rituals, conventions, institutions and practices of the society I live in are mostly based on personality types that I cannot/will not adhere to has led me to adopt a very individualistic political mindset.

Wolves versus lambs, and all that...

I tend to lean left, but I'm primarily balanced (socially liberal, fiscally conservative would be a closer description). I'm not a fan of radicals and conspiracies from either side.

School systems/etc not understanding me and dealing with me badly caused me to become libertarian. I think without AS, I'd probably be either an extreme leftie or conservative. AS makes me wanna be left alone and leave others alone.

I don't think it had influenced me as much as my upbringing. I grew up working class in the North of England. I feel almost innately socialist.

I think my autism pushed me away from the party-line of the radical left, though. I can't abide the likes of the SWP.

I don't think my autism spectrum diagnosis has any bearing on my political stances. Not in the slightest.

No. It has helped me remain rooted in the center.

Well, I enjoy being left alone, which is also my political stance. So in a way, yes.

Err.... maybe.

It may have produced a sense that the world in injustice, which is the starting point for many reformist ideologies (a lot of which are left-leaning).

Father was a left-populist, tho'.

I'm very constitutionalist conservative (not quite in line with the tea party) so I guess autism didn't affect my political orientation, but it may have a role in the intensity of my views.

The Comrade Delta fiasco?

Even were I left-wing (like you) I'd still hate that band of totalitarians and rape facilitators with a passion.
