I don't know that much about the US political system, but here in Oz, left-wing politics has tended, with a few exceptions, to focus on welfare, affordable housing, etc and generally less so on building a strong economy...
Here in Oz, the left tends to have no problem with debt and we have seen a pattern repeat itself many times:
Labor is elected and is responsible for big spending, causing huge debt...
The conservatives then come in to fix the financial mess...
Having said that, due to many reasons that are irrelevant to this discussion, I think it is time for a political change here in Oz.
I see myself as an independent/impartial observer rather than a fanboy of any political orientation...
I.E.
I am happy to dump on either side of the political divide...

Here in Oz, there is a very feral far left fanatical element causing a great deal of mischief...
While I like to lambast them...(well truthfully, I get catharsis from pulling their tails...
), I realise they are not representative of the entire spectrum of left-leaning individuals... One day I want to look into the actual percentage of a***holes on either side of the political divide...

This is in keeping with how I see many left-wing leaning individuals...
Casual studies suggest left-wing proponents tend to be more emotionally oriented while those on the right are more focused on rationalism...
But he could simply be on the rim of the political left bell curve...<shrug>
This may sound biased but I think simple observation supports the...errr...observation...

Sure, not every conservative is stupid, but I think the jury is in concerning how there are many really stupid right wingers.
