Say that the USA finally disbanded and each state was left to govern themselves, what would that be like?

I imagine states like California and Texas would do ok on their own. Other states would not be as fortunate.

I see your point about California and Texas, but don't you think that the smaller states would have treaties with each other?

The recent news articles talking about a potential second American Civil War. It's a scary thought... :|

It’d be 50 smaller countries, whoever’s the governer would be called the president of that country, and people would need a freakin passport to enter a different state, uh, hem, country. Therefore, it’s a bad idea.

I can think of worse things than that. Like starvation, extreme poverty, and invading enemies due to a lack if a powerful organized military. :|

I don't think that the states would break into their own countries. It would be too much of a disaster on immigration issues. Much more than we have now in the US. You would have to report all residents to the state they were native to.

Good point. Even all these idiots talking about wanting a civil war, I doubt they would really want it if it meant sacrifacing their own comfort. :)

Even the civil war that happened around Abe Lincoln's time, it wasn't about dividing each state as its own country, it was about trying to divide the current country at that time into a mere two countries at the Mason/Dixie line.

What a stupid and tragic war that was in my honest opinion. I hope we never repeat it in modern times!

But if you really want to see a civil war, there are always vacation packages to Israel and neighboring countries

I am illegally (or is that undocumentedly) immigrating to Washington State, because I am sure Texas will be the evangelical Christian version of Saudi Arabia.
