GOP senator warns Republicans could impeach Biden if he wins White House

Quote:
Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) told Bloomberg on Sunday that the House’s impeachment of President Trump had opened the door to impeaching former Vice President Joe Biden should he be elected president in 2020.

“I think this door of impeachable whatever has been opened,” Ernst said in the interview. “Joe Biden should be very careful what he’s asking for because, you know, we can have a situation where if it should ever be President Biden, that immediately, people, right the day after he would be elected would be saying, ‘Well, we’re going to impeach him.’”

Ernst said the former vice president could be impeached “for being assigned to take on Ukrainian corruption yet turning a blind eye to Burisma because his son was on the board making over a million dollars a year.”

I have no doubt the Republicans would do this if they get the chance.
So much for all the talk of respecting the will of the voters.

It would not surprise me at all if more impeachment chargers are brought against Trump.

Such political games will only cause the simmering pot to eventually over boil on the rest of us.

It wouldn't be the first time, and I doubt the last.

so you think this country will survive as a republic, and not split along its cultural fault lines or descend into outright fascist oligarchy?

While I hope and pray for the first option, the two others are always a possibility and must always be guarded against.

it seems not even god can make people get along. of course, satan seems to be the one running things as well as guiding a critical mass of people down here in this hellworld.

That's only because human beings are the Devil's willing accomplices.

some appropriate quotes about our situation-
"The people who elect corrupt politicians, imposters, thieves and traitors are not victims, they are accomplices." [george orwell]
"Every country has the government it deserves" -- Joseph de Maistre
"You can't fight corruption without pissing off corrupt people." [George P. Kent, Deputy Ass't. Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs]
"Once more, let me remind you what fascism is. It need not wear a brown shirt or a green shirt. Fascism begins the moment a ruling class, fearing the people may use their political democracy to obtain an economic democracy, begins to destroy political democracy in order to retain its power of exploitation and special privilege." [tommy douglas]
and the most tellingly pertinent quote of all-
"As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight where everything remains seemingly unchanged." [SCOTUS justice william o. douglas]

This is probably a pipe dream. If the Presidency flips back to the Democrats it is unlikely the House would flip back to the Republicans. All the Republicans would be able to do is propose impeachment amendments that would be voted down.

But yeah the current political climate sucks.
