By 'hard definition' communism deals with economics, fascism deals with governance. In reality, you can't separate the two because they're both dealing with power, just in different areas. That's why the Soviets had a dictatorial, quasi-fascist government, and fascist Germany had strong elements of socialism (Nazi is shorthand for National Socialist German Workers' Party). Rejoice, you're both right. :D

I don’t like this Trumpian trend.

If uncurbed, Trump could become the American Putin.

Putin, at least, is a competent despot. Trump is a buffoon, a satirical character.

Trump is merely a precursor of what's to come. Wait until the effects of global climate change start to make an impact @2c above pre-industrial levels, that's the point where mega storms start hitting cities not once a century but once a decade, crop failures start (especially wheat, which is a cold weather crop), and our over populated planet turns it's governments into cannibals. There's gonna be a lot of Trump like dictators running around across the world, it'll be a great show...if you're Jeff Bezos on your space bunker.

Semantics aside...the point is...that this disturbing development is exactly what all nascent dictatorships do. (both Communist, and anti-Communist dictators in banana republics do).

Lets take Trump out of this for now. Don’t worry I am going to bring him back.

In Portland state and local officials have abdicated their responsibilities and let riots happen for weeks on end. Prior to the George Floyd murder there been riots going on in that city for years. That because elected leaders there agree with the rioters, are intimidated by the rioters, or both. The Feds came in when Federal property was attacked. The “kidnapped” have given interviews to the media, many have been released on bail etc. What else would you have the Feds do or not do?

New York has seen a spike in crime and there is significant press and public pressure to roll back reforms blamed for it. No Federal intervention is needed at this time.

A lot of the panicked reaction is because it is Trump doing it and fears that Portland is the first step on the slippery slope to fascism is not unjustified because it is Trump.

Yeah, no doubt. There's a ton of things wrong with it, aside from it's ties to 3rd world countries. What's happening in Portland directly violates 3 of the 10 amendments that make up the Bill of Rights. Namely, citizens have been arrested for just being near a protest without any evidence of wrong doing (4th amendment violation since there's no probable cause), and the fact that the feds are overtaking local/state government's right to police which is protected by the 10th amendment (policing is not mentioned in the Constitution therefor the right/responsibility goes to the states). With no probable cause in these cases, the arrested citizens are also being arrested for their speech, a clear violation the 1st amendment that we all know. Then there's the lack of insignia on these Fed goons, which to my knowledge isn't technically illegal, but it bypasses all safeguards to ensure accountability and is violation of trust between the citizens and the government. Some dark days ahead for sure.

Edit: I cited the 5th for distinguishing probable cause, and it should be 4th.

Then the recourse for inaction of elected officials in our democracy is for the citizens to have a recall on those elected officials or boot them out of office when the next election comes around. "We the people" isn't just about the rights we enjoy, it's also about the responsibility to correct our politicians through the vote. Nowhere in the Constitution does it give the Federal government the authority to intervene in local policing. Yes, they do have the authority to defend Federal property because even though it's housed in a state it's still Federal ground. That said, they aren't arresting people at or near the courthouse, they're arresting people blocks away which is not Federal property and in many cases without any reason. Like you said, forget about Trump, the political game he's playing doesn't really matter, the breaking of the Bill of Rights is what really matters.

The mayor chose grey which is an obvious bad choice, therefor I fail to be outraged.

Because the media is owned by the same oligarchs that put Trumpty Dumpty in office.

Ron Childers, who was an influential professor in library and information science at Drexel University, made the observation nearly 40 years ago regarding the common ownership of both content and conduit by the oligarchs would result in disaster.

Sad to say, he was right!

Funny, all those supposedly pro-constitution, anti-government posters seem to be silent on this matter. Almost like their usual histrionics over authoritarian government are just for show.

Yeah and Colorado says no, I mean I have no doubt my state can fight that s**t...I mean who legalized weed first in the United States? The feds can err screw off, I was going to use the f-word though. And well some may talk crap on ole Polis but he's trying and I am certain he is better than the republican option would have been....I mean I feel he didn't pass the mask mandate soon enough, like he should have done it sooner. But with all the flaws I can see in him I still think he is not a terrible governor and he is doing his best to represent the state and protect it.

But yeah not sure how it will play out but Colorado says no, also they have a plan to use more state troopers to cut down on vandalism...we don't need 'help' from the feds the state troopers can certainly handle the situation without feds. And they are state troopers so they have to follow Colorado laws unlike feds who apparently wanna take people in unmarked vans.
