Will do! :D ...But if we end up having another civil war because of Trump and his cult I'm running away. :bounce:

I don’t believe Trump is the problem.

The issue of the South and the Civil War wasn’t so much slavery as it was collectivism as a whole. Forced racial slavery is nothing but extreme collectivism that doesn’t have to hide what it is. The most debilitating aspect was never the forced physical labor but rather the expectation that people surrender their own intellectual capacities to make the best decisions for themselves. Democrats have steadily resisted allowing blacks full self-sufficiency ever since.

There is some confusion that Republicans have been the ones standing in the way of racial equality. Republicans have had to wrestle with the problem that freedom and equality cannot be imposed on any human being who doesn’t want them. All men ARE created equal. That was never the problem. The problem is no man is equal in ability, ideas, or will. Therefore, no men are created equally deserving. Republicans have been more willing to step out of the way and allow “all men” to do as they want without the need for a government to artificially prop them up. To suggest that any affirmative action is necessary for success is to insult the ability, ideas, and will of the supposed victim. While at one point in history blacks really were real victims of slavery, such is no longer the case. Collectivists in this country daily remind their precious victim classes of their common enemies, creating an institutionalized state of intellectual slavery, only this time the war is waged by enslaved minds against free minds not only for the right to stay on the plantation, but to drag free thinkers down with them.

When I see a Confederate emblem, I see nothing different than a NAZI swastika or a Soviet hammer and sickle. My objection to the removal of these symbols and monuments is not approval of them but disapproval of the reasoning behind their removal. It is an attempt at rewriting history in order to hide Democratic Party involvement in those horrible acts and disguise present-day attempts at maintaining an enslaved power base.

Don’t interpret that to say I’m anti-Southern. I choose to live in Mississippi. I’m no fanboy of Trump or the Republican Party. I merely believe they most closely represent my own ideals and their policies work more to my advantage than the alternative. That said, there is NO POLITICAL PARTY that could possibly ever solve the big issues we have because there can never be a solution to a government-created problem as long as that solution requires execution by the same government that created the problems in the first place.

I disagree with most of what you just said. Trump IS part of the problem, the Democrats and Republicans no longer stand for the same values they held during the Civil War so this claim that Democrats are the real racist is complete BS, black people are still being victimized in this country, and it aint just the government that created this mess, it's the American people who are ignorantly and happily skipping towards a new dark age because they allowed the republic or their democracy or whatever the hell kind of government this is to crumble.

Which party is in power and responsible for policy in these areas where blacks are supposedly victimized? Aren’t Democrats just selling a false victim narrative to mobilize communities to hate whites?

I’d be delighted to see socialist governments crumble. Our government is a joke, and the most significant bilateral success we’ve seen is both parties working together to keep it that way.

So are you implying that black people don't get victimized in Republican-controlled regions of the country like where I live?

Be more specific. Whose policies? Which areas? New Orleans? Atlanta? Jackson? Memphis? Mississippi Delta? Washington D.C.? Baltimore?

What about Appalachia? Perpetual victimhood knows no racial boundaries. ;-)

Try South Georgia or Northwest Florida.

*yawn* I personally never heard of anything going on in those areas other than that amusing Florida Man character. What won’t that guy do next? XD You’re gonna want to fill me in on what I’m missing. I used to love Pensacola, Destin, and Ft. Walton Beach when I was a little kid. Beat the heck outta damn Gulf Shores.

There's a small town near Pensacola where only white folks live. I wish I knew the name of it, but apparently it's connected to the Klan and a number of black people who tried to move there were murdered. Also my Mom was friends with a young black girl who was snatched from her car by the police and thrown on the ground by the police injuring her face. Why? Because she was driving a car that looked similar to one reported stolen. Also there was another example of a black man in Pensacola supposedly arrested in his front yard for posessing weed and when he got out his vehicle in the front yard of his house the cops shot him dead with his young children watching. Supposedly because they thought he was armed.

Not gonna justify police brutality when it actually does happen, but there is a significant vet population in law enforcement there. Regardless of color, you’re gonna want to watch your step.

Still a great place for retirees and vacationers, and law enforcement is partly creditable for that.

I think that was the name of the town, near Hurricane Lake right?

One thing I do genuinely like more about the south is that most people are generally more friendly and laid back here, and I have met some people online who actually see this as a negative about us. One lady even claimed the politeness in the south "masks a dark nature about southerners" (I should have called her out on that BS when I had the chance). I just don't get the mindset of the "If you're not being a rude as*hole then you must be a sneaky bastard" mentality that some people have especially in the more urban areas. Why can't they just accept being nice and respectful to your fellow human being should be a virtue? :|

The former is Louisianan [in its American origin], much like the term "Dixie" itself, which originated from the French Louisiana $10 bills [dix=ten in French]. I left there and now reside close to the confluence of Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. Most locals don't trust gumbo, they think we put anything in it from fish heads to voodoo spells. To be fair, I don't ever put fish heads in mine, nor had I ever known anyone in New Orleans who did.

I've always seen "Southern hospitality" to be kind of a misnomer, and joke with outsiders that we throw that term about to increase tourism. Maybe it's my condition or unorthodox personality [and the way I dress or wear my hair], but people down here tend to be pretty rude and suspicious of me most of the time. I often get stares in public and get tailed in stores [and by cops] very often. As for the "laid back" southern thing, this tends to me to be something more akin to 'lazziez-faire' or just plain laziness than 'relaxed, open, and accepting' [hippie or surfer dude "laid back"]. Most Southerners tend to act fairly uptight towards me. Many have suggested that I 'tone it down' in other words, cut my hair off and dress like they do to try to fit in, but I just can't feel comfortable trying to be someone else to be around people who usually make me quite uncomfortable anyhow.

You must be free to be who you want to be. Are you in a small town? Cities usually tend to be more accepting. I'm not American but gather that some of these small Southern towns have a certain reputation.

South Africa is generally more accepting of differences, what with us having to go through our troubled past.

While I live in a small town, I refer mostly to the nearby city [metro population well over 600,000]

Interesting to think about. It's a beautiful country from what I've seen.

Yeah it is beautiful here. Great variety considering its small size compared to the US.

I've encountered a bit of needless suspicion from time to time but probably my mannerisms rather than my actual appearance. A woman at a place where I was doing a practical workplace internship following a course, thought I was creepy and staring at her all the time, yet none of the other woman thought so. She was incredibly disturbed by my presence, yet ironically had posters all over the wall filled with quotes from The Secret by Rhonda Byrne - about not letting others determine your sense of wellbeing.

I guess maybe I'm lucky that I grew up around southerners who were more tolerant and accepting? I often forget about the types who would look down on me for a variety of reasons I guess because my Mom never forced me to hang out with such people. All of her friends are more the hippy-types and have long hair, listen to classic rock, get tattoos, smoke weed, etc. I don't do weed of course.

Although we are poor and grew up in a trailer park so as weird as it sounds maybe that has a lot to do with it?

If you ever watched the movie Forrest Gump the character Jenny reminds me of my Mom in some ways, as did Forrest's mother. Although my Mom would never sleep with a sleazy principle just to get me into school. :eew:

We’ve been living in the Mississippi Delta for the last 15 years. Best way to describe it is you have The South, and then you have the Delta, which is an isolated area with very distinctive mindset. There is a deep racial divide there, BUT when blacks and whites interact it’s almost always peaceful. Everyone shops at the same grocery stores, eat at the same restaurants, party at the same blues clubs. It’s a great place to escape the rest of the world when you’re in a tight spot or just need to disappear. The trouble is pure economics. There’s no money to be had unless you farm or work for the government. Once you settle in, the mindset takes over and kills your will to leave. Once things seem hopeless, you’ll feel stuck, and that’s when things get miserable.

Without rehashing the long version of the story here, I’ll just say my pregnant wife and I walked out of our jobs, packed as much as we could, and just left. Hit the road. I took the first job opportunity that came along and bought a house built in 1921. I’m keeping my weekend job for as long as I can, and we still own property in the Delta that we’ll eventually sell. But for now having a weekend getaway is kinda interesting.

I know things might seem bleak where you are. But sometimes taking a big risk ends up being worth it. Just grab whatever you can carry, sell the rest, and hit the road. Just something to think about.
