The most ridiculous historical arguments denying women the right to vote.

• Eve ate the apple which made women unequal to men and, sorry, voting will not change that.

• Pregnant women could get too excited when they vote, and that will turn their babies into ugly idiots.

• Voting will lead women away from love and children and toward loneliness and anxiety.

• Voting will not help women cook and clean, so what is the point?

• Women are sweet, weak, and gentle and voting will make them hard and harsh like men.

• Women can get whatever they want anyway.

• Women could cancel out their husbands' votes.

• Women don't actually want to vote; they just think it would be fun to try.

• Women will abandon their husbands, cruelly leaving them alone with their own children to vote.

• Women will vote to punish the men who have done nothing but give them everything they want.

It has been only 100 years since women's right to vote was legally recognized, yet it seems amazing that some people (men, mostly) actually believed any of these arguments were valid.  The article gives more details, of course.

Any wonder these denominations are losing members and are closing churches? I left an ELCA congregation 5 years ago because the senior pastor, who is a woman, began usurping the infallibility of Biblical doctrine. I went to the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, and I’m seeing that denomination starting to go down that slippery slope in some congregations. Pretty soon, traditional Lutheranism will cease to exist within LC-MS.

When will Evangelicals, Catholics and Mormons follow suit?

How do you mean, follow suit?

If you’re talking about following the lead of these Mainline denominations, hopefully never. The apostasy being practiced by those denominations has forever condemned them and their congregants to the abyss of hell.

That's never going to happen because Christianity teaches that God created two genders for a reason with a separate role assigned to each gender. Not allowing female popes isn't anymore sexist than God not allowing men to have children. One could argue women have the greater role since the human race would cease to exist if women weren't able to reproduce. Women were given the very special role of being mothers and raising children which is essential to a well functioning society. Claims of misogyny are due to undervaluing the role of motherhood. Men can't do everything a women can since men can't have children. If women could do everything men could do, it would mean that women were superior to men. Believing that is sexist.

They are equal. That means women can do anything men can do (consider how good a job Jacinda Ardern is doing as PM of NZ). It doesn't make them superior, just equal. Anyway we don't need to procreate anymore because the world is pretty overpopulated as it is, which impacts the rest of the finely tuned harmony and balance of nature.

Technically, a man can't get pregnant and give a birth. That's what biological sex is all about.
Outside of reproduction, there is much more diversity among individuals than difference between sexes.

I was trying to explain why it's not sexist to only have male popes. Christians believe God assigned women the role of being mothers and gave men the role of leading the church. That's why women can't be bishops and priests and men can't have children. Different roles doesn't mean that one gender is superior to the other.

Hahaha right, and if a woman puts her happiness first by refusing to be anything other than a submissive slave to her family than she should be tossed to her death out of a window and fed to hungry dogs just like Jezebel.

Gender roles and roles in society are not as clear cut as you imply. Some en are wonderful at taking care of children while some women make great leaders, in either a church or secular capacity.

Indeed.  My wife is an outstanding pastor.  It's the people who cannot tolerate the idea of women in religious authority -- or any kind of authority -- who cause trouble for her.  Some have even called upon me to "act like a man" and prevent her from speaking in church.  Maybe it's because when women in church have marital problems, they go to her and not to one of the male pastors (or no one at all).  It must be difficult for abusive men to know that their wives have someone they can talk to without shame, embarrassment, or fear of being judged.  If their wives had no place to go, those husbands could be abusive as they want and keep it as their "family secret".

I didn't say women weren't capable of being great leaders. I simply referred to the Christian teaching that women aren't allowed and will never be allowed to be priests and bishops in the Christian church (the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church) because God assigned that role to men (according to Christian teaching) just like he assigned the role of motherhood to women. Of course, that won't stop other religions, governments, secular organizations, and modern religious sects from rejecting Christian teaching and believing whatever they want. They'll just be doing so against God's will (according to Christian teaching).
