3b) It is doubtful it had the cognitive ability to look to the future, so "consequences" would have been an unknown concept.
If we're talking about tiktaalik lifestyle, it was carnivorous, living in shallow, warm, oxygen-deprived swampy ponds. Even today fish in such enviroments develop ability to breathe air and move on land (eels, "walking catfish", etc.)
But there are mysterious Zachełmie Tracks that suggest some beast was walking the earth before the neat timeline of Ichtyostega and Tiktaalik...
