Okay, so we're at a point in another thread where it seems we either continue an off-topic discussion there or bring that off-topic discussion here.  Thus, this poll/thread was created.  Now, the question becomes...

"If you believe that your nation should adopt a 'Christian' religion as its national religion, then which 'Christian' religion should it be?"  A shortened version appears in the poll's heading.  Note that the poll does not specify any one nation, so let's not allow nationalism (or partisanship) to ruin this discussion.

You may select only one option, but you may change your selection at any time.

If you make a selection, then please post a comment; and if you post a comment, then please make a selection.

Also, please keep it civil.  This is an opportunity to present the specific merits of your religion, but bear in mind that people of other religions (or who may have no religious preference at all) can and will express their opinions as well.

Thank you.

I voted for Seventh Day Adventist because that is the only one you listed that observes Saturday Sabbath and Kosher. Otherwise I am not Adventist, I am Messianic. But since you didn't list Messianics, thats why I voted Adventist.

I like Adventists, though. I go to Adventist church sometimes. Back in my 20-s I used to go to Adventist bible study on campus at the University of Michigan. So Adventism brings back some nostalgy from the past. By the way, few years ago, in New Mexico, I came to Adventist church and ran into someone whom I used to know back in Michigan. She is married though. But that was still amazing.

The other option I was "tempted" to vote for was Jehovah Wittnesses. I just get drawn to Christian cults cause I like unusual thinking process it intrigues me. But then I thought they are too much heretical to be stuck with them as a state religion. Its interesting to visit their church once or twice but if I were to get stuck with them it would probably get old.

I would prefer that religion stay totally separate from secular government.

Is Voodoo an option?

There are dozens (if not hundreds) of other "Christian" denominations; but this website's software limits polls to 20 selections or less, which is why I included an "Other" option.

And yes, by implication, "Voodoo" is an option, since it derives much of its tradition from Roman Catholicism.

Thats interesting. So are you saying in Voodoo they actually believe in Jesus?

By the way, I voted "None", and for the same reason Kortie cited.

No, I am not.

I am saying, however, that Voodoo is a very ancient and oral tradition/religion of many spirits ("Loas" or saints), and One God (monotheism), and is the infusion of Traditional African beliefs with Roman Catholicism.

If it is infusion with Roman Catholicism, wouldn't Jesus be mentioned somewhere?

People in African religions which have been "Christianized" either by force or by their own design, have a tendency to believe in Jesus. Or, at the very least, an African god equivalent to Jesus.

Vadun (Voodoo) is one of those religions. Many Christian saints and entities have African equivalents. I believe it's called "syncretization."

My wife's son was once a practitioner of a religion which was derived from that of the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria. Their primary object of worship is "Shango." There are many African, and many Christian elements to the religion which is practiced.

Former Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I is often cited as the "Messiah" in several Caribbean-based traditions.

That's what missed: Rastafari!

Especially the Rastafarians. They call Haile Selassie "Ras Tafari." Hence the name.

I'm not Christian but I think the literalist fundamentalists make most sense. If you don't believe in a perfectly literal interpretation of a form of scripture than what real value does the scripture have. You can't pick and choose what parts of the New Testament you believe as divine,it's all divine or it's worthless.

It's like the Sadducee's who picked and chose what parts of Jewish law they would or would not follow, and where are the Sadducees? Two thousand years forgotten and irrelevant.

As Fnord is asking about proposed national version of Christianity - that would be problematic for science development in the nation.
