Well, you’re not going to get an actual Orwellian society because in the most practical terms it’s too unlikely you’ll be able to maintain a lie in a grand enough scale to gain universal acceptance by the Outer Party and the Proles. It’s just not a feasible system, not even for the most die-hard communists out there.

You might not be able to unless the "thought police" had absolute power. With the advent of the Internet, tech companies to control the arteries of the network and social media to read the minds and desires of everyone, 1984 is in play. This is the Grand Conspiracy. Look at China. Every action of its citizens is observed by "Big Brother". If someone steps out of line it is off to the reeducation camps.

A Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) attorney, named Michael Beller, was recorded on video making the following remarks to an undercover journalist:
* Beller shared his extreme views on what should be done with Trump's supporters and their children. "Even if Biden wins, we go for all the Republican voters and Homeland Security will take away their children," Beller says in the video. "And then we'll put them into reeducation camps." He then elaborates on his proposed "enlightenment camps," insisting they are "nice" places with "Sesame Street characters in the classrooms and they watch PBS all day."
* Beller appears to celebrate the spike in coronavirus cases in "red states," repeatedly calling the surge "great." Why do you think so?" the undercover journalist asks. "Because either those people won't come out to vote for Trump, you know, [in] the red states, or a lot of them are sick and dying," Beller says of Trump supporters.
* "What are you going to do if we [the Democrats] don't win?" the undercover journalist asks in one conversation. "Go to the White House and throw Molotov cocktails," Beller responds with a grin.

To the credit of PBS they said, "There is no place for hateful rhetoric at PBS, and this individual’s views in no way reflect our values or opinions." "This employee no longer works for PBS."

Washington Post associate editor Eugene Robinson, who said during an appearance on MSNBC earlier Tuesday that "there are millions of Americans, almost all White, almost all Republicans, who somehow need to be deprogrammed. "It is as though they are members of a cult, the Trumpist cult," added Robinson. "In their continued effort to use the Capitol incursion for political gain, Democrats feel emboldened to smear tens of millions of Trump supporters," Laura Ingraham replied. "They feel no need to debate issues or policies, not when they can treat their political opponents the way the Chinese treat its dissidents."

However, the host noted, these same figures were silent as Black Lives Matter and other leftist groups tore through urban areas last summer, looting big-box retailers, setting fires and at times blowing up automated teller machines.

"We heard no talk of manhunts or big pushes for facial recognition technology or adding supportive politicians to no-fly lists," she said. "Where were the cries for swift justice back then? Remember, a lot of the same people attacked state and federal institutions. And by the way, where are the cries for justice today as thugs continue to target federal courthouses in places like Portland and Philadelphia?

"Condemning violence shouldn't be related to one's ideology [or] the ideology of the perpetrator," Ingraham concluded, "and neither should the call for justice, ever."

George Orwell's dystopian novel "1984" reaching Amazon's top list of book purchases amid Big Tech censorship is not surprising, podcast host and author Rob Smith said on Wednesday. "I think that the pendulum is going to shift too far and even some people on the left are going to start saying 'Woah, what is going on now?'"

"When you think about what has happened over the course of the past week, when you had the president banned from Twitter, banned from Facebook, banned from Instagram, banned from Snapchat. I bet you didn’t even know he had a Snapchat. He did, it was hysterical," Smith said. Smith went on to say, "But this is sending a chilling message to free speech and it is everything that the book '1984' was talking about so I am not surprised that more people are discovering and rediscovering that because it is practically what we are living in right now."

Smith said that the pendulum will swing further because it has even alarmed the "far-left crazies" at the American Civil Liberties Union. "Even some of them have gone on record, some lawyers for the ACLU have said that silencing the President of the United States has gone too far."

Honestly, I felt much more 1984-like when I learned about personal data from f***book sold by Cambridge Analytica to Trump campaign than when the social media finally applied their regular rules to POTUS.

And who exactly made that determination? Was it the government? Or was it the rioters? Perhaps they should be held financially responsible for the hundreds of millions of dollars of damage they wrought. Many of the businesses destroyed didn't have insurance. Many of the small businesses were owned and operated by minorities. And now they are out of business permanently. People in those neighborhoods are now forced to travel far greater distances in order to gain the services they need. There was a lot of looting, a lot of burning, a lot of destruction.

In reality, the destruction whether caused by the right or the left or those that just love to party and burn stuff up IS WRONG. Whoever participates should be held responsible for their actions. Otherwise you have chaos.
