A database of membership records of 2 million Chinese Communist Party (CCP) operatives were recently leaked. This showed a network of infiltrations outside China.

It lead to the discovery that 10 consulates in the Eastern city [Shanghai] have Communist Party workers. The members are serving as senior political and government affairs specialists, economic advisers, clerks, and executive assistants. The database -- which was sent to the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China in mid-September -- shows that CCP members are or have been employed by British, German, Swiss, Indian, New Zealand, Italian, and South African missions in the coastal metropolis and through the Shanghai Foreign Agency Service Department.

In addition, the breach also exposed CCP members at companies like airline giant Boeing and COVID-19 vaccine-maker Pfizer.

Many of these CCP operatives were found at American universities over the summer, following the July closure of Houston's Chinese consulate. The U.S. government uncovered an intelligence operation to collect scientific research in fields such as biomedicine and artificial intelligence.

In September, acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf announced the revocation of more than 1,000 visas mostly held by graduate students and researchers after a string of federal charges were brought against students at schools like Harvard University, Boston University, Emory University, and the University of California San Francisco.

During a speech in Wheeling, West Virginia, Senator Joseph McCarthy (Republican-Wisconsin) claims that he has a list with the names of over 200 members of the Department of State that are “"known communists".  The speech vaulted McCarthy to national prominence and sparked a nationwide hysteria about subversives in the American government.

Speaking before the Ohio County Women’s Republican Club in Wheeling, West Virginia, Senator McCarthy waved before his audience a piece of paper.  According to the only published newspaper account of the speech, McCarthy said that, "I have here in my hand a list of 205 [State Department employees] that were known to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping the policy of the State Department".

An unprecedented data leak has revealed how alleged Chinese Communist Party members have embedded themselves inside some of the world’s biggest companies, including defence contractors, banks and pharmaceutical giants manufacturing coronavirus vaccines.

The Australian newspaper has obtained the leaked database of almost two million CCP members – including their party position, birthdate, national ID number and ethnicity – and 79,000 branches, many of them inside companies, universities and even government agencies.

Among the companies identified as having CCP members in their employ are manufacturers like Boeing and Volkswagen, drug giants Pfizer and AstraZeneca, and financial institutions including ANZ and HSBC, according to the reports.

The membership records also show that the CCP has infiltrated the Australian, British and US consulates in Shanghai, with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade using a Chinese government agency, the Shanghai Foreign Agency Service Department, to hire local staff.

“What’s amazing about this database is not just that it exposes people who are members of the Communist Party, and who are now living and working all over the world, from Australia to the US to the UK, but it’s amazing because it lifts the lid on how the party operates under President and Chairman Xi Jinping.” Markson said CCP branches had been set up inside western companies where members, “if called on, are answerable directly to the Communist Party” and President Xi himself. “It is also going to embarrass some global companies who appear to have no plan in place to protect their intellectual property from theft, from economic espionage,” she said.

The data was reportedly extracted from a server in Shanghai in 2016 by Chinese dissidents, who used it for counterintelligence purposes. It was later leaked to the international bipartisan group the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, before being provided to a consortium of media organisations – The Australian, the UK’s Mail on Sunday, Belgium’s De Standaard and a Swedish editor.

I know one such lady who came over as a spy and she is a lovely kind hearted young lady. She may still be here. Not been in touch with her for a few years.

So what do you propose to actually do about this "Dreaded Scourge"?

Wouldn't "Doing something about it" be hypocritical if we (Britain and America) also have our own spies in China and other places?

There is probably two approaches.
1. Hide it. Pretend it doesn't exit. Bury you head in the sand and pretend all is normal.
2. Let it see the light of day. Minimize vulnerabilities.

I am more inclined for the latter.

Oh, but we do not have "Spies"!  No, no, no ... we have "Intelligence Agents".

Doing something about commie spies would not be hypocritical at all!

Put the shoe on the other foot. Suppose China was given a list of British or American spies operating inside China. What do you think they would do?

One other comment. Those that are on the list are not necessarily spies. But they are individuals who have sworn an oath to the Chinese Communist Party. And these oaths are not to be taken too lightly.

Yeah, just like Trump's Oath of Office.

As far as I know, no one has published this list openly on the Internet. At least not just yet!

And also to answer this question, even if the list was published, most members on this site are anonymous. So the only person who might be able to answer your question is Alex and I suspect even if he had this list, he would not pursue naming names.

And also as I mentioned early, just being on this list does not make you a spy. It means you have sworn an oath to the Chinese Communist Party.
